There's a lot of topics on Superbit here, but for the record I'm torn between Desperado & The Fifth Element

mlemmond 05-15-03 09:44 AM

For me it has to be Croughing Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

SCHMEGGA 05-15-03 10:53 AM

Hmmm, proly a toss up between The Fifth Element and Crouching Tiger. Both are wonderful.

I've gotta go with The Fifth Element as well.

d2cheer 05-15-03 12:17 PM

Desperado for me...

Air Force One
Labyrinth

I have only viewed The Patriot, Dracula, Heavy Metal, The Mask of Zorro and the, in my opinion, phony Superbit, Panic Room.

The Mask of Zorro was probably the best; The Patriot and Dracula look damned good though.

I'm with Gattaca and Fifth Element.. and a close 3rd in Resident Evil.

TomOpus 05-15-03 05:45 PM

I only have 4 SuperBits, so I'm only going by what I have but while The Fifth Element looks and sounds great, I expected it to look and sound great.

I would have to vote for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. The quality totally surprised me... which made it all the more wonderful. It's a total joy to watch from beginning to end.

Once again, Superbit has nothing to do with it, but bit rate and the master HD copy does.

But, my favorite titles are "The Mask of Zorro" and "The Fifth Element".

But, if you want to see a perfect video, go check Toy Story 2.

Out of the ones I've seen so far, The Fifth Element looks the best to me.

Wanted to get Resident Evil but since it's not voted here, might as just as well get the regular version

Muah'dib 05-15-03 09:41 PM

Suprised no one has mentioned Das Boot. I do think Fifth Element is the best but Das Boot is fantastic.

In the realm of "best improvement", I'd agree.

Mask of Zorro is pretty damn good especially in the dts track. Plus it is one of the few Superbit deluxe editions which means the extras are on a second disc so you really cannot lose on this one.

How about the new release of XXX?
Supposedly it is MUCH better than the original SE DVD...

Finally! Superbit porn!

Superbit porn...

I only own CTHD, Gattaca and Das Boot... I agree that Das Boot exhibits the best improvement over a previous release. Gattaca and CTHD both look pretty nice but I haven't compared them against their Superbit brothers. My biggest problem with Superbits is the quality of film that is being released under this line...

Anaconda, A Knights Tale, Charlie's Angels, Bad Boys, Vertical Limit, etc... I know those films have their audience but is that audience really dedicated to the improved home theater presentation that the Superbit line claims to offer? I dunno, but those don't seem like home theater enthusiast films to me... I mean, honestly, who buys and installs $6000 worth of theater gear and then runs out to pick up the Johnny Mnemonic Superbit? But, I must be wrong and/or in the minority with my opinion, they keep turning em' out.

I also agree with those who are critical of releases such as Panic Room... With it's bit rate, etc, the Superbit name is just a marketing term. Better to turn out a fully loaded SE or just release it barebones. Calling it a Superbit, when it is not, is misleading and confuses the whole Superbit issue for the average consumer.

Re: Which superbit is the most visually impressive???

I currently own only two Superbit titles: Resident Evil and Panic Room. &nbsp Of those two I'd have to go with Resident Evil.
