Interesting, yet unsubstantiated Criterion announcement
A friend of mine who works at Laser Blazer in LA has told me that he received a release sheet with Schizopolis as a Criterion release. I'm still somewhat skeptical, as Fox Lorber owns the video rights to Schizopolis, and it's likely a misprint, and that it's just a Fox Lorber DVD, but if it is a Criterion release, I am quite excited. Natrually, the moment I hear any further information, I will relay it to the community.

It will be Criterion, spine number 199. It's all here:

Yeah... This ones been talked about for awhile and it's been confirmed. :)
I can't wait, I love this film. |
Fox Lorber (now Winstar) licensed a number of films to Criterion last year. That's how the recently-released Criterion Truffaut boxset happened. Schizopolis was likely a part of the same deal.

This movie is hillarious. I love the part where the guy wishes his wife were fatter. "She was so skinny when we got married. I hoped she would plump up, but...NOTHING!"

Here's a classic joke from Schizopolis courtesy of IMDb "memorable quotes":
Newswoman: The federal government announced today that in an effort to eradicate the national debt, it will be selling the state of Rhode Island to a group of private investors, for a reported $18 billion. The investors plan to enclose the entire state with an all-weather roof, and turn it into the world's largest shopping mall. When asked for comment, a White House spokesperson would only say, "Well, at least we didn't sell it to the f***ing Japanese." |
