Any idea of the differences between the theatrical and director's cut?

I dunno... I read someplace that there was extra footage that the director was going to add in and put out a new dvd in Japan. Maybe this will be that cut???

An even better version? Curses!
Guess I'll have to rebuy Versus.

Sorry, I rhyme when I'm bittersweet.

Wonder will the commentary be subtitled... I find myself guessing what they're on about sometimes...

i hope it's just an over sight that the first disc mentions no subtitles.

Wow! *Rubs Eyes* This is from Media Blasters?! That IS a suprise. This looks like a great set though. Kudos to Media Blasters. I hope they give Samurai Fiction the same treatment.

Anyone who's interested, this is the way to go. Don't pay $50 for the Japanese version. This one definitely falls into the so bad it's good category....

For $35 MSRP, too bad the Special Edition doesn't include both versions, the director's cut and the theatrical version. Sometimes director's cuts don't improve a movie. Apparently, most people feel that way about Battle Royale.

For me, I haven't seen Versus or Battle Royale, so I'll probably buy both (Versus in July and BR region free) director's cuts sight unseen. *shrug*

i am mostly excited that this is a r1, i have been really wanting to see this movie since i heard about it. i have multi-region capability, but i prefer r0 or r1 discs if i can get em. i'm not sure about the other versions of versus, but i am especially excited about the dts soundtrack on the r1!

This could be an interesting set. I've seen it and I'm not sure if it deserves a 2-disc set but I'm very happy for the big fans of this movie. Hell, I might even pick it up.

YEAH!!! DTS BABY! Versus has a really good score so hopefully the did a good job with it. The R2 Japanese release is only Dolby Surround.

How's this compare to something like Dead Alive or Biozombie, movie wise?

Believe me, it won't matter for this film. It's all about the violence in this case. For the most part there really isn't a story.

I'm wondering if the supplements will be subtitled in this version as there aren't in the other one and are thus pretty worthless....

Aside from both movies containing zombies, it's a very different movie from Dead Alive. Versus, at least to me, is not gory at all, I mean, it has gore, but not on a DA level. It's violent, but there are countless movies way more voilent. I'm sure I've seen Biozombie but I can't remember it off hand. I would describe Versus as a cross between an old John Woo style film meets Blade with Zombies. The story is really stupid, but the movie is so full of energy & over the top performances it's very enjoyable if you like dumb, bloody action movies.

Now my question is, which version to get. Do I have the specs right? Basically the only benefit to the single disc is the extra footage? If that's the case then I have to go for the 2-disc set, I really dig the soundtrack so DTS alone makes it worthwhile. Either way it will be way better than the bootleg I've been watching for the past 2 years.

NO DTS

I've gotten word from Media Blasters that there WILL NOT be DTS tracks on these DVDs. Their web site says DTS, and the press release they sent us said DTS, but now they say no DTS. Possibly this is to accommodate the two audio commentaries on the disc...

Anyway, the current word straight from Media Blasters is NO DTS. SUCK.

Of course, they may just change their minds back again without notice, who knows...

That sucks... Oh well, as long as the DD 5.1 mix is good and the transfer looks nice, I'll be MORE than happy.

i'd be bummed out if there was not dts, but still, the 2disc seems fairly cheap for pre-order. i'm happy i don't have to spend an arm and a leg on it. a 5.1 dolby mix would be fine.

Puzzled

Why is everyone in such a rush to get a DTS mix when the only thing Media Blasters have is the same 2 channel master supplied to every other licensee? I think it's a smart move to have dropped it, there's no use for a DTS track that's just a 2 channel track stretched to it's limits. Prologic or Prologic 2 processing would be a hundred times more preferabble to a juiced up fake DTS track, no?

So the Unrated Director's Cut Edition and the 2-Disc Special Editon both have the same cut, right?

That is what we've been told by Media Blasters, yes.
