Help! Problem with Ronin DVD!
I have a 50" Hitachi RPTV(not widescreen), with a Pioneer DV-414 hooked up. I also have a Pioneer DVD-120 DVD-ROM on my computer..
With the Ronin DVD in, I get this: 4:3 side of DVD: http://warzone.org/ronin19.jpg 16:9 side of DVD: http://warzone.org/ronin20.jpg I used WinDVD to capture these, but it also happens as well on the DV-414. I talked to 2 friends with the DVD, and both said they don't have that problem. It appears that the "16:9" picture is actually the 4:3, but zoomed in and black bars added. Does ANYONE else have this problem? Am I missing a setting? What's going on?! Is this an error with the disc? I pre-ordered this disc before it came out, so it was the first pressing. Did MGM screw up the first pressing of it or something? |
Looks to me like it was shot in Super35, in 4:3 you get more on top and bottom and in 16:9 you get more on the sides. Just like with Air Force One

I was about to say the same thing. Ronin in fact was shot in Super-35.
This page illustrates Super-35 (with pics): http://widescreen.org/aspect_ratios.shtml Nothing wrong with your DVD. |
Hmm, never even heard of that. Thanks for the clear-up guys :)

Just to re-iterate the widescreen image is the correct one. The extra space you see on the full-screen version is not what the director intended you to see. Widescreen is the OAR (Original Aspect Ratio)

Widescreen yes, and if I have to I will stretch those 1.33:1 concerts, to make the widest screen possible. LOL :)
