Rocky IV- anamorphic!!??? The case says so...

We all know from this thread that the Russian subtitle problem has been fixed in the individually-sold* Rocky IV.

I was just looking at this in the store when I noticed on the back it says Enhanced for 16x9, etc!!

TRUE! :) Misprint? :(

Can anyone with this new individually-sold version confirm if it's anamorphic now?

If so, I'll buy it for $10, sell the old for $6 and accept the $4 loss for the upgrades -- then, only Rocky II (my fave) would be the sole non-enhanced title.

*Box set version not corrected

Misprint, sorry. I wish they would replace the current non-anamorphic edition.

I have that version of Rocky IV which I got recently from the boxset and it IS indeed anamorphic. Check out this thread for a little more info -

My boxset 2 years old, is the non-ana version, but it looks like the bozset being shipped now has a corrected one after all (Mustve re-did it with the standalone versions).

Woohoo! I'm gonna do the rebuy & replace plan after all :)

That looks to be the case. I got my boxset in January and part 4 is anamorphic w/ fixed subtitles.

So Rocky 2 is still non enhanced in these new sets?

No known versions of part 2 yet.

Can you send in the old Rocky 4 with botched subtitles to MGM for the fixed anamorphic replacement??

And pay $4 shipping?

As I described above, if I'm gonna lose $4, I'd rather just buy at Best Buy for $10 and sell old at the used store for about $6.

The individuals in the stores do not say they are anamorphic.

At least not the ones I have seen.

One I saw today defintely DID. It's exactly like the scan posted on page 2 of http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=289390

Yep, I got my Rocky IV 2 weeks ago, and it IS anamorphic! I'm pretty darn happy. :):):)

Interesting, I shall explore more tomorrow, I had only seen ones listed that were NOT anamorphic.

Folks, I was the one that started the thread about the subtitles, my copy of Rocky IV, which I got from DeepDiscountDVD has the anamorphic enhanced logo on the bottom left. Here is a screen cap from the DVD:

http://www.theforumisdown.com/upload...0103/rocky.jpg

I tend to think it is 16x9 because when I throw it on my computer, PowerDVD automatically adjusts the window to the 16x9 window.

If that's an uncropped cap directly from the DVD, it's definitely anamorphic, otherwise there would be much bigger black bars needed for the non-anamorphic 1.85:1 AR. Since there are just very thin black bars, it looks to be 1.85:1 anamorphic. Perhaps MGM did a new transfer to go along with the subs?

it is uncropped but slightly reduced so I could host.

Just for the record, I ordered mine from Deep discount dvd a few weeks ago, and as I stated above, the copy I got was anamorphic. So if anyone has a hard time finding one locally, DDD definitley has them (make sure you use the DVDtalk link :)).
