I just got an interesting email reply from DDD. I emailed them about HARDWARE this weekend, tonight I received the reply.

The dvd is question will be shipped by 5/16/2003

Needless to say I am as confused as can be?

question: is the German DVD release the uncut version: complete with the that got sliced out for the R-rated US version?

That Medienhandel page lists it as uncut and 90 min. Also, at the bottom under extras it lists cut scenes 2 min. If its uncut why would there be cut scenes unless maybe they're scenes that have never been shown before.

I'm concerned about the 4:3 presentation. A post earlier mentioned open matte which I can live with but Pan and Scan would be a real disappointment.

This page at dvdshop has a bunch of screenshots. Is there anyone able to make comparisons to a home video release and tell if its open matte or pan and scan?

There must be some german message boards with people who own this. I'd sure like to read their opinion.

I'm interested to see how this DDD thing plays out. Maybe they're just really confused over there. :hscratch:

Well, to partially answer my own question I located this german review which seems mixed in terms of picture and sound. The page also inludes more screenshots.

From a translation the review says "The Cutscenes shows the scenes which are missing during the old cinema version, which are present on these DVD"

Sounds like the film is cut but with the scenes added for extras. The run time lists 90:06. Anyone have the runtime of the uncut film?

I just checked my order history at DDD. The Order for HARDWARE is listed as cancelled. Guess I won't be getting it after the 16th.

Here's a brief review in english from a fan who recently obtained the german disc. Quality doesn't sound great but he states that it is uncut and those deleted scene extras are scenes cut from the German theatrical release.

Anyone receive their R2 German disc yet? I waited to see how the situation with DDD panned out. Just curious if you had any problems with the swiss etailer.

this movie scarred me mentally as a youth, and i have been waiting years to see it again with good IQ and audio.

just to add to the confusion- i saw it in a Maine theatre when it released, and the door gore was intact. i thought the cuts were sexual in nature...? wasn't it only released as R-rated in the USA theatres?

dammit again! i wonder why it was silently swept under the carpet? surely content can't be the reason?

Thought I'd do a search and add to the existing thread rather than start a new one:

Does anybody have an idea why the Region 1 release was cancelled? Was it simply a postponement or will it just never see the light of day? This is one of those rare sci-fi's that I'd love to have in my collection.

Did some more checking. This title was scheduled for release by Buena Vista. Are their recent financial woes the root of the cancellation for this title? Too bad. One of the few B-Movie sci-fi's I'm still looking to add to my collection.
