Is anybody else having pixelation problems with "Spirited Away" disc?

I have gone through two copies of "Spirited Away" now, and both of them have pixelated on me. The first one had an obvious defect on the disc surface and pixelated and froze about half-way through. I exchanged it for another one that looks flawless, but as I was watching it last night, it also pixelated and froze about halfway through, although not in the same spot as the first.

So now I'm wondering if there's flaws in some of the discs or if I've just been unlucky twice. Anybody else experiencing these problems? BTW, I have a Toshiba SD1600 if that matters.

no problems on my sony, or any other player. have you tried it yet on other players, dvd-roms or xbox? never trust just one player. it wouldnt be delamination I doubt, that would come later. could just be the player...maybe needs cleaned, or that player model conflicting with the disc. again, you need to be sure and experiment with other players first...I think.

Mine works fine on my Sony (DVPS570D), and that player is the most shaky, glitchy thing I've ever owned. Try using a lens cleaner if you have one. It helped me out quite a bit in some cases. It could possibly eliminate the problem entirely on your player, who knows. Sadly, my Sony has a bit more than a case of a dirty lens.

Crystal clear on my Panny... Agree with the others, sounds like a player problem to me.

Hmmmm...interesting that I'm the only one experiencing this problem. I'll get a laser cleaner and try that.

Here's another question, though. Why, if this is a player problem, is this the only disc I've had problems with?

Could be a player compatibility issue... It certainly wouldn't be the first time that a disc and a particular brand of player didn't work well together. I'm pretty sure that some Toshibas are fairly well known for having problems with certain discs. However, you would think that if it was a player compatibility issue then someone else with your make and model would have posted on it by now... Try cleaning it and go from there.

Curious... Did you read the initial post in this thread? Two bad copies of the same DVD - especially a new one with no to little reported failure - is highly unlikely. Not unheard of, but the odds are stacked pretty hard against it...
