Whoa! I better go watch these again. I remember those scenes and havent had a chance to watch all the dvd's yet.

Samuel 04-26-03 09:41 PM

What a downer, of all the scenes to cut!

MJKTool 04-26-03 10:22 PM

I'm still going to enjoy the set regardless...

Keyser Soze 04-26-03 11:56 PM

Glad I didn't buy it then. I think I'll hold onto my old set a little longer.

Just wanted to post to say thanks for bringing this to light. I have only had a passing knowledge of Mr Bean seeing them on HBO years ago but am going to pick this set up. Thought that this was every episode that was made and glad to have this information to know what I'm missing.

Looking forward to A&E's reply and also for any further cuts that you happen to come across.

Sometimes, America just sucks!

DonnachaOne 04-27-03 02:35 AM

What address can we send letters of complaint too?

While we're at it, let's send this off to other DVD sites who might not have caught this.

Does anyone know if the 2 scenes cut from the box set are also cut in the single DVD "The best bit's of Mr Bean"?- which came out in 1996 from universal-check out Amazon or DeepDiscount DVD for the details.

We're ASSUMING there are only 2 scenes cut out. That's all there has been located so far. However , there could be more once we compare the episodes more carefully.

bdots48 04-27-03 12:44 PM

Pretty ironic that they entitled the set "The WHOLE Bean",isn't it?

Class316 04-27-03 01:10 PM

This is why I never touch a DVD till I confirm on the net that it’s 100% intact!! Shame on studios!! Instead of whining why people pirate all the times let them eliminate REASONS to do that, such as censorship (and I don’t mean Mr Bean I mean in general)

America = A & E?

OR

America = HBO which cut nothing from the original Bean episodes. And the VHS videos in America have no cuts as well.

Decker 04-28-03 10:59 AM

Wow, that is REALLY bad. I wonder why that happened. Do you suppose it's just an oversight that will be corrected (like BTTF or any one of MGM subtitle problems) or was it intentional? Who do we complain to?

ntu slacker 04-28-03 11:32 AM

these 2 scenes goshzilla mentioned in his earliest posts arennt familiar to me.

here we get re-runs of Mr Bean every week and i am positive it was not aired. perhaps u can ask the studio of mr bean to clear the air on this

i think its called Thames if i am not wrong

Iron Chef 04-28-03 11:33 AM

Thanks for the heads-up. I will not be picking this set up tomorrow.

Damfino 04-28-03 12:09 PM

Well this sure does suck.

I have the R2 set from Spain and I have confirmed that Merry Christmas Mr. Bean is uncut, however the scene with the old lady and the chair is missing from Do it Yourself Mr. Bean!

This is very confusing since I thought the R2 European versions and the R4 Australian were from the same source.

I am bumping an old thread in the International forum to try and collect details on all of the known versions.

Rammsteinfan 04-28-03 02:50 PM

I left a message on A&E"s board. I dont know if they read it but at least there is something there for them to see.

lpetschauer 04-28-03 04:17 PM

I bought the set - it's great. Decided that I wouldn't let 2 minutes (or whatever) of missing footage deprive me of 6+ hours of laughter.

bayork 04-28-03 04:36 PM

I didn't see Rammsteinfan's post, so added yet another thread under A&E's Questions About Online Store Products section of their discussion forums.

bayork 04-28-03 04:45 PM

The more places it is, the more fellow Beanophiles will see the news, and complain(hopefully)!

OT: I don't suppose anyone has looked closely at the BlackAdder discs to see if they're complete.....?

mr_jbloggs 04-28-03 05:13 PM

You may want to provide them feedback using the feedback page on their web site. There was nothing obvious as to what selection to choose that will get their attention, but you could choose the "shop A&E" option and select "Technical" or "DVD Request" from the dropdown list and then leave feed back.

The BlackAdder discs are property of BBC Video who produces excellent British TV DVDs (no cuts either). So , I don't think we need to worry about BlackAdder.

bayork 04-28-03 05:45 PM

GOOD!

(It's No.1 on my list of "possible birthday gifts" from my wife....)

bayork 04-28-03 05:49 PM

mr_jbloggs -

Good suggestion. I submitted a query that was essentially the same as the thread I started.

If/when they respond, I'll relay what they tell me here...

sharkattack2000 04-28-03 06:03 PM

I've emailed A&E using their Feedback webpage. I've also left a message on their discussion board. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one pissed off about this. I've been waiting for Mr. Bean on DVD for over 3 years but A&E has managed to mess up what could have been an excellent DVD product.

Someone over at HTF talked to someone at A&E regarding this and is expecting a call about it today. I am still holding out hope for some answers but I realistically don't expect many.

Also anyone interested in talking to someone at A&E below is there customer service phone number :

If you don't find the answer you're looking for, or if you have questions about the status of an order, you can contact our customer service representatives by e-mail at
