All-Time Greatest use of the DVD Pause button?

So what's the single best freeze-frame you've ever seen? As in you press Pause, take a screenshot, a still, screen grab, a capture, whatever ...

I love this moment from RTP. The Director and his DP obviously took a lot of time on it, and it just begs to be frozen in time.

But yours could be be cheeky, or dramatic, or symbolic, mindblowing ... or anything.

Road To Perdition, Chapter 21 "The Rain", 1:34:43 (R2 edition)

* WATCH YOUR FILE SIZE!
Please don't post .BMP images as not all browsers can read them and they can get REALLY large ... use .jpg, .png or .gif if poss. And check your compression (if you know how to do this): a well-compressed .jpg can still look good, be nice and big (eg: 700 pixels wide) and not take up more than about 20k or less.

* NAME THAT MOVIE!
It REALLY helps if you identify which film the freeze frame comes from ... Some people enjoy trying to work it out, but the consensus seems to be that a caption helps pretty much every time

* TAKING SCREEN GRABS
* UPLOADING IMAGES

Later on in this thread (I'm adding this later, when we're up to 155+ replies), there's plenty of help for people who haven't yet worked out how to take a screen grab. Plus, help for those who need somewhere to post their images so they appear on the screen.

Thanks: Andy

Just saw you had this same shot in the pic you posted in "show us your goodies thread." You do watch other stuff on your TV right? ;)

One of my favorite films, Moulin Rouge, has some amazing cinematography in it, a lot of which goes beyond just still images. I think the El Tango del Roxanne scene is just stunning.

Note: I had to delete the caps I included because my bandwidth was taking a pretty big hit. :)

That The Godfather accidental reflection. I didn't have a picture host so I can't post it. :(

gutwrencher 04-20-03 11:36 AM

well for vhs, it was the breast shot in Fast Times at Ridgemont High-wink-. now I like the side shot of the eyeball being punctured with a wooden splinter in Zombie. damn...sorry. I thought I was still in Fangorias forum.....:D

shanester 04-20-03 11:37 AM

What exactly is meant by "freeze frame"??..I'm assuming were not talkin about that top ten hit for the J.Geils Band in 1981..:)

Doesn't the "pause" button on my remote do the same??

No. :lol:

Pretty much, I think. If I didn't mistaken by andyh's word, then freeze frame would also be screenshots.

Hey Madcougar, you detective man ... yep I took the pic of my HT setup with the Road To Perdition image on the screen because - I don't know, it looked good. And that set me thinking about posting this thread ...

Sorry, I'm a Brit, so by 'freeze frame' I meant yeah, Pause, screenshot, whatever you want to call it.

I assume someone's going to post Sharon Stone sooner or later .. I can't because I don't have Basic Instinct on DVD yet, but I guess 95% of guys (and gals)who do have it have Paused at that particular moment ...

Moulin Rouge is full of great Freeze Frame moments. I'm waiting for Solaris to come out on DVD so I can grab one of the shots of the space station floating above the planet ..

NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO. IF YOU DID IT WOULD GO TO MATURE FORUM I will be able to go there starting may 27,2003, so if you do post another shot (I assume you mean the crossing the legs scene?

andyh 04-20-03 05:10 PM

Hey Rypro, no danger of me posting that as I said ... hope whoever does is wise enough to slap one of those convenient little black boxes on it somewhere.

Hey, May 27 2003 - my 39th birthday - something you not telling me?

Cosmic Bus 04-20-03 07:29 PM

Andyh:

I found some very nice Solaris wallpaper of the exact thing you're talking about at MovieSight; I messed around with the image in Photoshop and removed the logo, so now it looks even better IMO!

A vid cap from that sphere hurtling thru the mausilium in "Phantasm", when the two knives come out to penetrate the brain; and pump out all the blood down to the floor. :)

do any of you use DVDPro to do DVD screen captures on your computer? it seems like it would be pretty fun to play with.
