It'll be interesting to see if the studio still plans to release a special deluxe extended version, or since it bombed so badly they'll just cut their losses and put out a bare bones release.

I'll probably pick it up in any case. Thanks for the info!

I think there's enough interest out there for them to give us a jam-packed SE. The Civil War enthusiasts who came to my theatre to see this film were amazed at how accurate things seemed to be, and the overall quality of the film (long-winded speeches and all).

Also, I think Ted Turner will pay the extra moolah to get this one done right since it IS his baby.

At least at home you can
decomstruct" the film into a mini-series and not have to fight (no pun intended ) your way hrough it in one sitting.

I'm pretty sure Warner will release a SE of Gods & Generals. I think a big part of the failure of the film in the box office is nobody wants to sit in a theatre for 4 plus hours, whereas the home format is perfect for a film of this length. For that reason I believe we will see some decent extras, and most likely a 2-disc set at that.

"were amazed at how accurate things seemed to be" Oh sweet christ. Portraying "Stonewall" Jackson as a religious family man that is not interested in accolades, some how misses the boat. That was painful to watch and I love reading and studying about the Civil War.

I don’t mean to thread crap, but there were some serious problems with character portrayals in that film. The best thing going is that they got Duvall (finally) as General Lee.

I hope that they will release the 6 hour version over 3 discs, and another disc or 2 of extras, and release a new fully remastered directors cut of Gettysberg 3 disc set, 2 for the movie, and one for the extras. I also hope they put it in 5.1 sound.

I can't wait to pick this one up. I never had 4 hours to spend in a theater, so to me this is the perfect DVD to watch at my leisure. (And no need for an "extended" version a la LOTR, but some extras would be great as well.) Sounds good.

P.S. Where'd the info. come from on the 7/15 release date? Just wondering...

I'll be getting it. But I wonder if they're going to re-release Gettysburg.

Wasn't there a extended director's cut of Gettysburg that came out on VHS in boxed set in the early '90s?

Yes, with about a half hour of additional footage. Came in a box set with maps, booklet, and a CW era miniball. That's the version I always wanted. Hopefully when they re-release it that's the version they'll give us.

It has been widely posted by the director that the first release which comes out in July would be the theatrical version
and about a year later will come the often mentioned 6 hour
version. I believe the Battle of Mannasas will run about about an hour by it self on the extended version.
Best

Oh not another Daredevil situation. I thought the director originally said that this would come out imidiatly. Plus if g&g gets great reviews ala daredevil, it would be hard not to double dip.

Damn, its a flipper, would have prefered a 2 disc set, but I'll live with it, and we will have to deal with the snapper case. I wonder when this 6 hour version will come out. Hopefully it won't take as long as it took Pearl Harbor vs.
