Terminator 2: Extreme question.

I know there have been threads on this, but i searched and couldn't find any. Will this have the same "extended cut" as the ultimate edition? A few sites show the ultimate edition as 4 minutes longer. Thanks in advance.

milo bloom 04-08-03 11:48 PM

I believe it will have the 16 minute longer director's cut only.

jough 04-09-03 12:47 AM

It's the same extended cut as the ultimate edition, but not the longer hidden cut.

And there will be only one version of the film on the new disc - so hang on to those "Ultimate Editions" if you got 'em (which I'd do anyway just because of the cool metal case).

Besides, the extras will be COMPLETELY different on the new set. I don't think of the new discs as a replacement as much as a companion for the old set. It's like "The Matrix Revisited" except with a new transfer of the film and a new director commentary included as well!

Oh, for those with fast new computers out there, the Extreme Editon will also have a High-Definition transfer of the film viewable in Windows Media Player 9. That sounds VERY cool. I can't wait to see it in HD.

I am holding onto my ULTIMATE EDITION.
Until HD-DVD arrives, this is as good as it gets.
Come on, this NEW disc is still standard DVD
technology and not HD-DVD. It doesn't matter
that a new HD master was minted for the transfer,
as it's still limited by current DVD resolution.
Enough is enough already!

YES! Exactly my thoughts....

Besides, I only watch the special extended version of the film at this point. I love that future scene in the park.

Standard DVD resolution or not, if a new transfer eliminates the horrible edge enhancement artifacts, I'm buying.
I will wait for a review though.

Has anyone heard when they are going to release the HD transfer with DTS?

Doug Schiller, what are you playing this disc over? Using a progressive scan dvd player and an HDtv, THE ULTIMATE EDITION looks stellar! I can't possibly justify an upgrade until dvd goes HD.

Rammsteinfan 04-09-03 11:04 AM

I need to check out my old UE of T2 now that I have my progessive WS tv. I think I am going to pick up this new edition just to have the commentary, unless the reviews aren't that good.

Rypro 525 04-09-03 01:56 PM

Original reports say that this transfer is so good that it is better than the way it looked in the theaters.

Doug Schiller 04-09-03 03:00 PM

I'm playing it on a 16x9 Hitachi Ultravision, with a progressive Panny RP82.

If you don't see the edge artifacts, consider yourself blessed. I can give you a link to specific examples but like they say in the movie 8MM, you will see things that you can't unsee. It will forever spoil your enjoyment of the film.

Doug, all I can tell you is that over a DLP projection system this disc looks terrific!

Doug Schiller 04-09-03 03:36 PM

Whew, with HTF's search function down today I thought I would never find the link but google is my friend.
Here it is (and don't say I didn't warn you).

http://www.videophile.info/Guide_EE/Page_01.htm

They should rename it the Ghosts of T2!

DavidH 04-09-03 05:02 PM

Yes, I noticed the EE on my 61" display.

Besides the EE though, this is just an average transfer for today's standards. It has a digital look to it with too many compression artifacts. I'm sure the new one will make it look something like cat food (to put it very nicely).

highdef 04-09-03 05:09 PM

Yes, I went to the site and the example really makes the disc look terrible. It just doesn't look like that over my DLP projector. Sorry.

Yes, wait 5 to 10 years for a standard HD technology to be supported by the major studios.

And DTS will probably be replaced by something better by then, so the point is moot.

I fail to see how your question qualifies as an "extreme question"

The question was about the new edition of Terminator 2, called the "Extreme Edition."

It may help to actually *read* the thread in question before failing to see things. If you have nothing to add to the discussion, why even both posting? Just to be a jerk?

From what I read on dvd.ign there is a Windows Media Player 9 file of the complete movie on the disc that is 1080p! It seems you need a 1.8 Ghz Pentium 4 at minimum to play it correctly.

That what I understood, I could be wrong though!

Here's the link

aren't all the specs for the speculative aside from the 3d case and an extended cut?

I beat you to this info by 16 posts! ;)

There's a full page ad in Video Store Magazine this week for this set. The ad says that the suggested computer requirements are a Windows XP Professional OS with Media Player 9, a 3.0Gz processor (!!!), 128 Mb video card, etc.

So you pretty much need the fastest computer out there. It should be pretty cool, though. I'd love to see this title in HD.

No, they're already advertising the announced specs. They're not rumor or speculation.

Artisan's web site hasn't been updated in nearly two years. That can't be a good sign. They don't even have any info on their recent SEs.

Their big new release listed is "The Limey," and they're annoucing that "T2: Ultimate Edition" is due out on August 29, 2000.

Yowza.

Yeah, I knew you were joking. Still, it's hard to tell when someone's being pissy and when they're trying to make a joke.

Perhaps a ;) would have been in order.

Oh for Christ's sake, DDD has it up for $15. Hardly a major expense.
