"The Legend of Bagger Vance" is painfully slow. It's not horrible, it just doesn't do much to keep you interested.

The Red Shoes, on the other hand, is brilliant (and Criterion's DVD shows exactly what a special edition should be).

(Never saw Bagger Vance. Looks wretched.)

The Red Shoes (along with the other Criterion Powell & Pressburger films) are a must own IMO. If you saw the Academy Awards, and saw the presentation for Jack Cardiff, then you saw clips from the Red Shoes and from Black Narcissus. The fact that he was the first cinematographer to receive an Honorary Oscar speaks volumes about these two films in particular.

Red Shoes is a must!!! This excellent film is somewhat slow, and the first hour is just an introduction to the people and their personalities. However, the somewhat slow pace is building an atmosphere and a plot that is thinkening until the final scene, which function as the final crescendo. This is truely a masterpiece, that I will watch again this coming weekend.
