I have to admit to not having seen the DVDs for the majority of those.

"Princess Mononoke" is definitely worth a purchase if you're a fan of animation that's not skewed towards younger viewers. "Hollow Man" is an unremarkable action movie with a sci-fi spin, but the DVD is spectacular. Might be worth getting at a really low price, but otherwise, it's best suited for a rental.

A Bug's Life CE - looks beautiful - This is 1 of those reference quality discs. However, the story didn't really grab me & it wasn't very funny. I borrowed a friend's copy once & haven't felt a need to see it again. I think Toy Story is better.

Blues Brothers - 1 of my most watched movies ever. An epic. Ver funny, some of the best music ever put in a movie, & 1 heck of a car chase at the end

ID4 - I hated the movie - but the DVD is probably good

Chicken Run - good movie & disc, but I don't need to see it again.

I really haven't seen to many of the films you've listed, however I'd definatly recommend a purchase of the Blues Brothers disc. Good movie and a very good DVD.

I'm just curious, have all the people that are not suggesting to buy Mononoke seen it in Japanese, subtitled, instead of the insipid English dub? That might affect your opinion.

I saw it dubbed, liked it anyways. I don't lose a minute's sleep over missing minor nuances here.

Here's my take on the list. Clear suggestions are labelled PASS or BUY. Most of them are too subjective for definitive answers.

Cleopatra: Special Edition -- I could live without this one. Will not rent or buy this bloated classic. Definite PASS.
Ben Hur -- I will rent this one and might eventually buy it.
A Bug's Life CE -- I own the regular one, haven't replaced it. Incredible reference quality DVD visuals, great characters, charming story. Definite BUY.
Princess Mononoke -- Saw it in theaters, bought it as soon as it was available. You should rent it first.
Remember The Titans -- Rented it, not going to buy it.
Dances With Wolves -- Beautiful movie that I'd keep if given to me. Classic epic style storytelling. Costner's name is only bad thing here in good, not great movie.
Titanic -- Run and hide from this one. Story is as tedious as the effects are grand.
Saving Private Ryan DTS -- Bought it 2 months ago, watched it 5 times already. Compelling story, incredible visuals, stunning sound. Definite BUY.
Seven Platinum Series -- Renter for me. Listen to someone else about this one.
Usual Suspects -- Wife loves, so I bought it. I'd rent it and might eventually buy it for great performances.
Aliens -- 2nd DVD I bought. Watched this one over 20 times already. Definite BUY.
Blues Brothers -- Rent it, first. <whip crack noice> Rawhide!
ID4 -- Rent it. I got it for a gift, will keep it.
Mission Impossible -- No interest.
Mission Impossible 2 (MI:2) -- No Interest.
Hollow Man -- Saw in theaters, won't buy or rent. Completely forgetable. PASS.
Green Mile -- Good movie, rented it.
Chicken Run -- Great movie, lots of fun, saw in theaters, rented, then bought. Great extras, too. Definite BUY.
Tarzan CE -- Phil Collins does the music.
Air Force One -- Bought this one, could have easily passed on it. For ~$10, this was worth it.
Manhunter SE -- Saw in theaters, rented 2-3 times since. Rent first, my suggestion. I don't own, as it's somewhat dated now.
Glory SE -- Might buy it. Would suggest renting this movie, though, if you haven't seen it. Great performances.

You list two Cameron flicks, Titanic and Aliens. You should consider True Lies, T2, or The Abyss before ID4 or Titanic, I feel.

A Bug's Life CE -- Buy. I love this movie.
Princess Mononoke -- Skip it.. even without some of the poor English performances (like Billy Bob!), I thought the story was very disappointing. Nice animation though.
Remember The Titans -- Bought it. Not monumental, but a nice film worth keeping.
Dances With Wolves -- Okay the first time, but I wouldn't buy it.
Titanic -- You couldn't pay me to watch this again.
Blues Brothers -- Great film! Haven't seen the DVD transfer.
ID4 -- Why this was popular I don't know.
Mission Impossible 2 (MI:2) -- Nice DVD but the film is forgettable.
Chicken Run -- Good DVD. Buy or rent.
Tarzan CE -- Buy it. Better than most Disneys out on DVD. Better than I expected.

Yes. Watched the dub and the Japanese track. Quite enjoyed it. But... Not enough to buy. The GF loves it, so I suspect I'll own it one day (after it becomes available at CH for enrollment).

Buy all, I would and I have almost all too.
Because I do not rent.

Second thought, do not make same mistake I did, DON'T BUY HOLLOW MAN, it is a pretty good film the first 100 minutes and then it turns to ****.

My thoughts:
  • Cleopatra: Special Edition -- I bought it, but I question the repeat viewing, just because it is very long. The suppliments are cool, tho.
  • Ben Hur--can't say--I'll buy it when I have money...
  • A Bug's Life CE--Buy it--Tons of repeat value
  • Princess Mononoke--I saw a screener. It was good, but I'm not that big of a fan.
  • Remember The Titans--can't say. Probably won't buy it, tho.
  • Dances With Wolves--Seen the movie, and it's pretty good. Depends on who you talk to. A friend saw it and said it was so good, he never wanted to see it again. Go figure...
  • Titanic--definate replay value. If you like the movie, I'd go for it
  • Saving Private Ryan DTS--I don't think there is much replay value here at all. Very deep, heavy movie.
  • Seven Platinum Series--Yes, there is replay value here, in a creepy kind of way.
  • Usual Suspects--can't say
  • Aliens--Yes, replay value, buy
  • Blues Brothers--can't say
  • ID4--Buy, there is replay value, especially if you like the movie.
  • Mission Impossible-If you liked the movie, then go for it. Not much besides the movie on the disc, tho.
  • Mission Impossible 2 (MI:2)--I liked this less than 1, but it has some interesting features.
  • Hollow Man--okay, but not much replay value
  • Green Mile--get it. lots of replay value.
  • Chicken Run--get it. again, you can't usually go wrong with animation.
  • Tarzan CE--I didn't like it, but along the lines of the previous title, I'd go for it.
  • Air Force One--can't say.
  • Manhunter SE--pretty good, I've watched it a few times. I'd definately get the regular rather than the le, tho.
  • Glory SE--I'm not sure there is much replay value here, but the suppliments seem totally worth it. I'm getting this when I have money.

Generally, if I said it has replay value, It means I would reccomend buying it. It also depends on how you watch movies. If you watch tons, while you're doing other things, then you might want to invest in some of these more than if you sit down with popcorn or whatever, and dedicate yourself to the movie.
