The show itself is pretty darn good. Nothing amazingly original or groundbreaking, but nice art and direction and solid everywhere else. Worth a rent and the _very_ least. I would recommend a buy, the DVD is a very good deal. Don't have it myself yet (broke college guy w/ a family) so I can't comment on the transfer etc.

No, I avoid dubs at all costs. Even the best of them (like say, Mononoke) still miss the mark. America just doesn't have the voice acting background to pull it off right. In japan it's a huge industry, you can go to college just to study voice acting, etc. Here it's something someone does while they try and break into commercials.

I usually listen to the dubbing because I just feel strange when watching animation not in English.. I feel distracted at times. It's just my preference :-)

I have the Iria DVD and liked it a lot. The transfer is very good and the disk is a good buy since you get all six OVAs on one disk. The story and character and mechanical designs are also interesting. It is definitely worth renting.
