i was completely unaware that Lina Wertmüller's
Seven Beauties had been released. Its one of those films that i like, but somehow overlooked. Since it was put out a couple of years ago and by Fox Lorber, i was wondering if anyone could give me a review of the quality. i know the film well, and dont need a critical review of the plot. Anyone have it?

Don't have it, but like you I'd be interested in hearing comments.

Found this on amazon:

From Widescreen Review:
Picture Quality: 3.5 (5 is the highest rating) Sound Quality: 2 (5 is the highest rating)

User Review:

Great DVD transfer, oh yeah!, October 6, 2000
Reviewer: Miko (see more about me) from New Jersey
Finally, an excellent job by Fox-Lorber (just about time, isn't it?). The image in widescreen is sharp and the colors are right. A few forgivable scratches and artifacts here and there but excellent throughout. Can't complain about the sound (mono) which is clear anyway and I think that's how it was when it was first released in theatres. The different interactive menus have music from the film which is a delight thinking that Fox-Lorber did it. Chapter searches are few (6) and far in between but that's okay (since Fox-Lorber is known for that). The only thing missing is the booklet which the company never does anyway (I wonder why). Anyway, the film is great and deserves the treatment it got for its transfer.

No. but I got to see it on the big screen a year ago. I went to a local university film program that was going to project The Conformist, but the film didn't arrive in time so they presented Seven Beauties instead! The VHS transfer from FoxLorber isn't bad & is letterboxed.

Yes.
If you are a fan of the film - you should get it. The widescreen transfer is pretty good (remember it's Fox), it features optional subtitles and animated menus. This was available only in a dubbed version before DVD, so it was nice to hear actor's voices.

That's not true. Fox-Lorber's video of Seven Beauties was letter-boxed and had English subtitles. It was not dubbed.
Here's a description of the VHS tape from Amazon.com Seven Beauties (1976) VHS ~ Subtitled in English ~ Giancarlo Giannini

I think DVD and VHS came out almost simultaneously in late '90s, but a dubbed version was available since late '80s
