I just bought L.A Confidential! The video, audio, extras is great! Just that the story is really just complicated! There is a lot of characters, clues and indirect storyline. Is that the main reason for this movie to be the best in 1997? I think I am oing to watch it over and over again. I just watched one and I only understand 50% - 60% of the story! No regrets bought this movie after all! Do you?

Great movie with a very complex plot. It's based on a novel by James Ellroy, and Ellroy has said that when he finished writing the novel that even he was confused about who committed one of the murders. They did a great job of not "dumbing down " for the film version.

Wasn't impressed the first time I watched it. After I bought it from Bestbuy post thanksgiving sale I watched it one more time. Now I love this movie.

I'm reading the book now and the movie should have another title. The book is sooo different.

I am a big fan of both the movie and several other James Ellroy books. I tried to read the book after watching the movie, and couldn't do it. There was dialogue that was the same as it was in the movie, only it was being said by different characters. This made an already complicated story, impossible for me to follow. I can't wait for the next Ellroy adaptation, though. I still think "American Tabloid" would make an awesome movie or even a cool mini-series.

I love this movie. It's one of my top five. It's so well done, all around.

I don't get upset when a movie is different from the book if the writer of the book is involved in the process. All the interviews with Ellroy, he says he loves the movie, and was very complimentary to the directors and producers about how well they captured his characters and the point he was trying to make.

He could be toeing the company line, but I believed him.

I too think his praise of the film is genuine. He was not at all complimentary of Cop which was based on his "Blood on the Moon." I'm looking forward to White Jazz, another great book by Ellroy that supposedly will star Nick Nolte and John Cusack.

I think the main reason why the movie is so critically acclaimed, besides the normal stuff like acting and story, is it was a great, refreshing, and healthy invigoration of the film noir genre. Something that doesn't happen too often anymore.

Did this really need two posts?

The key is to keep them right next to each other...
