Some thing tell me that the re-release version by Anchor Bay will be far more superior than the old Hong Kong version. Is this true?

Supposedly they are going to be in anamorphic widescreen and have all new subtitles. The latter is extremely needed. Buy.com has both of them for pre-order for $15.99. Does anybody know an exact date? They say like 12/21 or something, but I thought it was January.
