Can't find a review of the DVD of this Kurosawa film. How are the picture, sound, and extras? Why does it cost so much?

...for a review, go here:
http://www.filmsondisc.com/DVDpages/dersu_uzala.htm

...unfortunately yet another example of a pretty damn great film (SovScope 70mm, AR 2.20:1) by a great filmmaker that didn't receive the anamorphic transfer it deserves ... there should be a law against such cavalier treatment! (...said the bitter old man, who remembered seeing this very beautiful, brilliantly photographed movie projected onto the giant Cinerama screen...)

. . . . . .

Yeah, I'm disappointed too. It's great to have it on dvd, but I expected a better treatment (and maybe more than a trailer as an extra) - especially for the premium cost. In any case, this is a wonderful film, one of my favorite kurosawas.
