I got an early look at Disney's DVD edition today, and although I gotta say I agree with the people who didn't find this movie too enjoyable, Disney suprised me with how nice the DVD edition is; great picture and sound, with some cool extras.
It's too bad that the movie really isn't that great (definitely more of a "rental"), because, although this isn't the biggest special edition lately, it's certainly one of the better Disney SE's I've seen.

I've also started working on a review of "Ready To Rumble", which comes out the 19th. The commentary with David Arquette and two of the other actors is pretty hilarious so far.

I would have to say that most disney dvds are crap. Not only has Miramax, Touchstone and Hollywood failed to produce decent discs(except for Good Will Hunting and Disney's own dvds such as tarzan and Bug's life cd), but they let people know they're dvds are crap by putting that lame 'widescreen' heading on all their dvds. Their completely un-original since each of them do this and they think that putting 'widescreen' on the front is the same thing as actually making a truly Special Edition of a movie. Nonetheless, they'll get better, but do people really want to buy 40 dollar editions of movies like armageddon(a good edition, even though they didn't make it)?
Mission to Mars wasn't good, but it can be made into a decent dvd. But why buy it? Just rent it and forgot about it.

Are Miramax, Touchstone and Hollywood trying to scream that their dvds are plain by putting 'widescreen' on them, but not putting any extras? I mean, if, god willing, they ever make a special edition, do you still think they'd put 'widescreen' on it? I would sure as hell hope not.

I was expecting bad things based on people's reviews. I didn't think it was that bad. Certainly 100x better than Supernova.
The premise is ok - search and rescue mission. The acting was ok - great cast but so-so script leading to passable character dvlp. Special effects were awesome, and the transfer on this dvd truly does it justice. The visuals were mesmerizing and beautiful to watch. Which was why I really enjoyed the last 1/3 of the movie. The character developement and the trip to Mars was to cliched and too long. Even the action sequence in the middle of the flick didn't stir me. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it, but after the rescue crew landed, that's when I like this movie.
