I've searched for this on the forum and found nothing. I heard the dvds on here are bad transfers both visually and sonically. I'm aware that Kubrick only filmed in Mono, etc. Anyway, would you guys recommend this set? Is another one in the works? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

"...I heard the dvds on here are bad transfers both visually and sonically..."
The transfers are certainly not 'state-of-the-art', but - in MVHO, of course! - they are entirely watchable and listenable. "...Kubrick only filmed in Mono..." Not quite: Spartacus and 2001 featured multi-channel soundtracks, as does Kubrick's 'swan song' Eyes Wide Shut. "...Is another [set] in the works?..." ...don't hold your breath... ! http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/wink.gif ! |
I think that the set is worthwhile for Kubrick fans. While some of the transfers are just ok (VHS quality) you will still probably enjoy. In addition there is a great behind the scenes featurette on The Shining DVD.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I preordered the SKC prior to its release. Yes, the movies are watchable, but most of the titles are Full Screen with VHS quality transfers. I wish I had held off. Frankly, I hope others avoid these titles in the hopes that WB will re-release these titles with the care they deserve. In the end, we get what we pay for.
