Pull out your SPR DVD. I get quite a bit of video artifacts from about 24:40 through 25:00 or so. The flames coming up from the gun turret that the guys burn have a series of vertical lines coming up as well as other objects.
Do you get these artifacts? Is it a part of the "look and feel" of the "handy cam" style filming of these and other early scenes of this movie?

whatever you do, don't post this at the Home Theater Forum, they'll all laugh at you for not being a snobby enthusiast and appreciating Spielberg's technique. To get a straightforward answer, it's part of the director's technique. There I just prevented about 20 sarcastic posts at HTF by "film enthusiasts".
