Recently I found out that these first 2 films of the series are available on DVD but Amazon's price is a rather hefty $23 for each. Are the movies and the DVDs in particular worth it?

Well for $23, its OK...
There's only a few good points. Better picture and a trailer. Thats it. I don't feel like going into detail, but for $23 a pop, versus $9.99 at a store, you get better picture quality and a trailer.
Search this forum for Firday the 13th. There were tons of reviews a while back.

Pretty good movies.
Why pay so much? Columbia House has them both... also, I saw you asked about Halloween I, they also have it (the re-stored version). Do code FVT and you can get a pretty good deal.
