Anyone seen this movie on DVD?
My dvd list http://www.dvdtracker.com/~dvdfreak [This message has been edited by Packer (edited 12-14-1999).] |
I started watching it last night, but started getting restless close to bedtime so I skipped through it in hopes of finding anything of entertainment value. I plan to watch it all the way through tonight, but I must worn you, based on what I've seen it looks to suck bigtime. To be honest, it looked like it was going to suck before I bought it. But I thought if nothing else there should be a shot or two of Denise Richards in a bathing suit. But guess what? It looks like I won't even get that much. It has the feel of a Farley Bros. movie (Dumb & Dumber'esk) only the jokes fall flat. No worthy extras on the disc either. I hope to give more thorough review tomorrow, but in the mean time "save your money".

I haven't seen it, but based on the horrible trailer and the overwhelmingly bad reviews, I would avoid at all costs. And I'll watch just about anything with Denise Richards in it.

Loved it!

I gotta admit, I enjoyed it too. It won`t make the AFI Top 100, but it was pretty fun stuff.

Saw it in reno this weekend on PPV...Sucked the big one!!! Glad i didn't pre-order it!!

My initial feers were confirmed last night when I watched the entire movie. I was trying to think of something good to say about it, and I think I found something. The transfer looks good and it's able to be displayed in 16:9.
I like most movies, even the movies that many others seem to dislike (i.e. WWW, Haunting, Entrapment), but this movie truely sucks. If you think smoking, bad Minnesota accents, and throwing up is somehow funny, you might like it. This will be the first DVD I own (collection of 70) that will be up for trade or sale. |
Oh, I think throwing up is hilarious.
Seriously, while I have been known to watch a movie just because Denise Richards is in it, I have never had any desire to see this one. As far as Denise goes, I'll just watch "Wild Things" over and over. <g> |
I HATED this movie!!
It was totally not what i expected. If you have seen the trailer, you have seen all the funny parts. From what i remember 80% of the movie was just one person talking into the camera. I know that it goes along with the plot but who wants to watch a movie like that. |
I finally saw this movie, and I agree that it was not what I expected. While not a "classic" in any sense of the word, it was hilariously funny in places, and a good way to waste an hour and a half. Some of the "white trash" humor had me rolling on the floor laughing. Everything from Kirsten Dunst's bizarre obsession with Diane Sawyer to Denise Richards' stereotypical, disingenuous Christ fixation to the beer can permanently melted to Ellen Barkin's hand. This movie makes such unrelenting fun of white trash that you can't help but laugh out loud in many places.

I liked the movie. It's a definite rental not one to have for your collection. It's funny in a stupid dry kinda way. Overall, a good movie and Denise Richards doesn't hurt.
|
Don't go there with Mallrats, man.
|
I guess to a large extent, the movie is in the eye of the beholder. While I really liked both Dogma and Chasing Amy, I thought Clerks was only OK, and I thought Mallrats stunk. But it's all a matter of personal opinion.

I don't think you are going to really get any constructive thoughts out of this thread--There are tons of folks who just hated this film, but I really liked it--there was a lot of dark humor--bucking the system/favoratism humor, and just a lot of stuff that you'd laugh at. I especially liked much of the documentary crew humor as well. I saw the film on Encore(or maybe starz, I don't know) and 10 minutes later I went and bought the film. Obviously, if you have any doubt, then rent it first.

I skipped the DVD because the trailers looked bad, but I caught it on Starz a few weeks ago and thought it was pretty funny.
