DVD Talk Gold Edition
I had high hopes for this one since I remember sneaking peeks at it on cable as a kid. I watched it last night and, while parts were amusing, I never laughed out loud even once. Oh well, not everything is as good as we remember.

DVD Talk Legend
mugwump, I saw KFM a few times during its initial theatrical release. I remember laughing for days afterwards just thinking about it.
I just watched it on DVD and it is still very funny. But then again, I can vividly remember the things that KFM parodied. My oldest daughter was watching it with me, but she only found it mildly funny... specifically because she wasn't even born at the time that the movie was originally released.
For anyone with fond memories of this film, this is a must-have DVD. I'm told that the commentary track is hilarious (though I haven't heard it myself yet) I would NOT recommend this movie for anyone not old enough to see it when it was in theatres.

I thought it was silly, but my reviewer loves KFM.

I disagree that this movie is dated. At the time of KFM's release I and those that I have forced to watch along with me were not yet born. Never once has someone disliked this movie. Also, an ability to recognize the sources of the parodies is not a prerequisite to enjoy this flick. Certainly, having seen or possessing a knowledge of the history of Enter the dragon, deep throat, and the disaster genre adds to the experience. On the whole I would only dissuade those who are young or are opposed to material of a sexual nature.

I didn't mean to imply that the movie was bad. It just wasn't the side-splitter that I was expecting. It certainly had its moments and I had forgotten just how raunchy those late 70s early 80s comedies could be. If the entire film had been "Catholic High School Girls in Trouble" I wouldn't have a thing to complain about.

Mugwump,
I agree--I felt it was dated. Dated, slept with and left in the morning like a beer goggle pickup. I don't feel that way with most of Airplane!
I also find all too often that films I LOVED as a child or adolescent don't stand the test of time. Sad, really.
