I just watched the new DVD of "Eyes of Laura Mars" last night. This was a movie I remember seeing when I was younger and had liked it (although, thankfully did not remember too much about the plot.)
Faye Dunaway, Tommy Lee Jones star along with a bunch of high-profile guest stars (Brad Dourif, Rene Auberjonois (Odo from ST-DS9), Michael Tucker from LA Law. The film is from 1978, and the transfer, while soft, I thought looked realLy good for the film. Audio is mono, nothing special, but once I got into the movie I didn't notice.

Faye Dunaway is controversial photographer who beginns having psychic images of a killer in the act: she sees the murders like she is looking through his eyes. It is a very engaging thriller, with a great surprise ending that I am glad I didn't remember. Great performances!

I haven't gotten into the special features yet, but I am really impressed that there is a director's commentary and a making-of featurette on this disc. I love it when they go back and do these things for a 22 year old film.

All in all, if you like this film, or like good thrillers, it is worth a purchase.

Well the audio commentary is a bit slow (you must remember how old Irvin Kirshner is now) but still informative. Also you forogt to mention how good the late but great Raul Julia is in the film! Also I LOVE that Barbara Streisand title tune "prisoner" One of my fav songs from 1978!!!!

I watched this for the first time tonight.

I think the best thing about Eyes of Laura Mars is the movie poster.

And the recreation of 1970s New York grittiness, the disco culture, the fashion photography world, and the causality between violence, pornography, self-image, patriarchy, and voyeurism.

Oh, and Faye Dunaway's legs.

Otherwise the movie is pretty terrible. The killer's motivation makes absolutely ZERO sense. Mostly because they never present one. The last 10 minutes of this movie are frightfully dumb. They tried going full giallo in 1978 America. Never go full giallo in 1978 America. Because you never will.

Irvin Kershner went on to direct The Empire Strikes Back, which was a wee bit of an improvement.

Just watched this for the first time to night and I fucking loved it! It was on the Criterion Channel and the Blu-ray is only $5 on Amazon, so I quickly ordered it. Man, everyone is in this fucking movie. Shit, and I thought I had called the killer and I was wrong. I had a great time with it. I think John Carpenter had sold this script before he even directed Halloween, which is why he's only featured in the writing credits.
