I did not see this movie at the theaters, but I was thinking about preordering it. Should I?

Definitely rent it first. I thought it was OK at best in the theatre - a couple of amusing moments + 89 minutes of humdrum non-comedy. Heavy-handed moral conclusion at the end - quite painful, really...

I've read that the DVD is crammed with extras, though, and it's being released in DTS (caveat: theatre soundtrack was run-of-the-mill - dunno if DTS would do anything for the disc). So if you bought Godzilla for the extras like some other schmucks - er, readers http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif - here, preorder this disc. Otherwise, rent first.

I saw the movie when it came out in December and I really enjoyed it. It was entertaining and funny. If you are a fan of Star Trek and other Sci-Fi tv shows you will probably enjoy it even more because of its "inside jokes".

Overall, I would say this is worth owning. It got pretty good reviews from most critics.

There are two versions for pre-order: Dolby Digital and DTS

I thought it was the single best Star Trek film to come out in years. Basically, if you like sci-fi in general, have enjoyed exposure to Trek in specific, AND are amused by the oddball fandom behind it, you'll probably enjoy the film quite a bit.

Have not seen it myself, but a friend of mine did. He said it was very funny and thoroughly enjoyed it and is planning on buying the DVD. I pre-ordered it myself on his recommendation. http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

MY SHORT BUT SLOWLY EXPANDING DVD LIST

A friend of a friend's dentist of mine said it was pretty good. Personally I thought it was quite entertaining. Nothing really special, but a fun Star Trekky spoof that is funny and reverant at the same time. Special effects are quite good too. The DVD is quite packed. So, yeah I reccomend it.

DD vs. DTS ???

Before I open my copy of the DD vesion, I was wondering if I should return it for the DTS.

I liked the DTS version quite a bit.

Its a fun SciFi spoof. There are some good laughs. You may want to rent it before thinking about buying it.

"Heavy-handed moral conclusion?" What movie were you watching? I've seen "Galaxy Quest" 4 times now and have yet to feel preached at about anything. The ending is consistent with the rest of the film, which is extremely entertaining. I have no idea what you are talking about.

You want heavy-handed, painful moral lessons, watch "Star Trek: Insurrection." You want harmless, good fun, watch "Galaxy Quest."

Even though I hate Allen, I thought this was a fun spoof on Star Trek.
