Attention Drive-In Mutants ...

http://images.dvdexpress.com/consume...lf/12402lf.jpg

I just posted my thoughts on the gore classic Blood Feast. The Hershell Gordon Lewis film is an absolute must-have. Wanna know why? Have a look in DVD Talk's reviews section ... check it out.

Also reviewed: The Wizard of Gore.
Coming soon: Deep Red, Inferno and I Was A Teenage Zombie.

Dude, get with the times!

Start putting chapter stops in your "Time codes" section. Joe Bob Briggs would forgive you. http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif

Nice review, though. Keep up the good work.

Hey, maybe you could tell me if you ever heard of a Zombie flick whose title (I believe) was "Blood Feast: Butchers of the Damned". I don't know much about it except I saw it at a drive-in in the early 80's. It opened with a girl being gunned down by either a pot farmer or some narcs. The government dropped some pesticides on the pot which somehow caused people to turn into zombies. Anyway, I've never heard of this movie since and would like to track it down. Any help would be appreciated.

Just found a listing under the title Bloodeaters in IMDb. They say it was also known as:

Blood Butchers (1980)
Forest of Fear (1980) (UK: video title)
Toxic Zombies (1980)

Any additional info would still be appreciated.

I'm not sure I follow you on the chapter stops deal. I'd certainly be willing to improve the notations.

I haven't seen Blood Eaters, but I'm fairly certain the video title was Toxic Zombies. That'd probably be your best way of tracking it down. Sounds like a good one. I finally broke down and bought a used copy of Return of the Living Dead 3. It's one of my faves.

Thanks for the kind words about the review.

At last a movie with Hypnotic-stare fu. I can‘t tell you how long I’ve waited for my favorite martial arts sub-discipline to be properly represented on DVD.

Why is it every time I read one of your reviews noelgross, my bank balance decreases? http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif

<small>And is it just me or did the second Joe Bob collection not kick ass in quite the same way as the first?</small>

Keep on keeping on good buddy

Not sure I follow you on that one. Am I missing something?

Oh, and Wizard of Gore has mega hypnosis fu. Must be a favorite plot device of Hershell's.

noelgross, I have two published collections of the wisdom of Joe-Bob but I thought the second one was kind of scrappy. Maybe over in the States you get his column through syndication, but the only way I”ve had access to it is through the collected versions of his skewed take on movies and life.

If you like Joe Bob you check out Joe R Lansdale, Mojo author supreme, you’ll not regret it http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif

There are only two collections of reviews in book form ... Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-In and Joe Bob Goes Back to the Drive-In (both are brilliant). And he quit doing both of his syndicated columns in 1997. These days, he can be seen on his weekly show on TNT called Monstervision ... and on Comedy Central's "Daily Show" as hisself, John Bloom, in "God Stuff" (introducing footage of televangelist zanniness).

A great source of his old reviews are through the newsletters he did throughout the run of the columns ... "We Are The Weird" and "The Joe Bob Report."

Also, there's a series of about 20 out-of-print videos called "The Sleaziest Movies in the History of the World."

If anyone would like to swap Joe Bob stuff ...

Also, I visited the Monstervision set ...

Any word on 'Joe Bob Goes To The Drive-In' getting back in-print? I have '...back...' hidden somewhere (I lost it in a move 8 years ago, but a relative of mine said it's turned up...)

BTW, to tie all of this together, Blood Feast was part of the "Sleaziest Movies in the History of the World" collection. It's the only one I own actually, and it's what made me pre-order the DVD...

I doubt the books will ever return. I've had great success locating OOP books with abebooks.com. Just search for "Joe Bob Briggs" or the title. You should also try half.com.

In a Yahoo! chat, Bloom said he still owes his publisher a couple books, and that he's in the process of writing a b-movie guide. I have a feeling the other will be outside of his Joe Bob persona.

Lots of Hershell's movies are part of the "Sleaziest" series: Two Thousand Maniacs, Wizard of Gore, Gruesome Twosome, She-Devils on Wheels, Suburban Roulette ... probably some others I've forgotten.

Most DVD's are broken in chapters. It would be cool if you included the total timecode (say, 35.25) and the chapter, chapter timecode (ch 11, 01:25). Just a thought.

Good tip. I found some more info under Toxic Zombies. Too bad it seems out of print. Oh well. I agree that Return of the Living Dead 3 is great. I taped the unrated version off of a cable a while back. Can't wait until it hits DVD.

The HErshal Gordon Lewis DVD's are great! And Lewis's commentary are insightful,a nd the man actually sound intelligent and normal. it is truly unique and I cant believe Anchor Bay turned it down, claiming it wount sell and it isnt "interesting"! And they find DEF CON 4 and DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR and ZOO GANG interesting? Odd.
