If you have kids or just love animated films, Tarzan is a must own. The sound in DD5.1 is top notch.
Today I received my copy of the Collectors Edition. It is great. I would say it rivals the caliber of the Bug's Life CE DVD.

There are two great segments. The Deep Canvas technique and the development of the music in the film are both excellent.

Cheers.

I thought it was in DD 5.0 and not DD 5.1

MY SHORT BUT SLOWLY EXPANDING DVD LIST

Blade 04-18-00 07:09 AM

It is. The bass is there, it just doesn't have it's own channel (normally the LFE).

This is the way the original version was done and is NOT the audio glitch that the barebones version had (the problem, fixed in the CE, had two of the channels flipped, the surrounds I believe. Hard to detect too.).

Just ordered mine today. Hope the movies good. http://216.167.93.69/ubb/smile.gif

Blade,
Could you describe the problem with the original? I did not know about it until now.

Actually, I think it had the right front and right surrond tracks combined. Oh Mr Postman, when will you arrive and bring me the disc I've been waiting for for 5 months now? Not bad for $1.99 shipped, though. Where is an online review of this release, I haven't found one anywhere.

This is from DVDFile's review of the original disc:

quote:
There appears to be a mastering mistake is the Dolby Digital 5.0 soundtrack for Tarzan. The front left and rear left channels have been combined, leaving an unbalanced experience that's really distracting. When sounds pan across screen from right to left, they end up in the sidewall between the left front and rear speaker instead of solidly in the left front.

This isn't happening on all discs. Also, there's no problem with the French audio track, so if you compare the English and French soundtracks with some sounds that should track across the soundfield and you hear a difference, then you have a bad copy.

If you have a bad version, and you can't return it to where you bought it from, Buena Vista has a consumer hotline (1-800-723-4763) to take names and addresses to replace defective Tarzan discs.

Reel.com has a good review of the CE disc

Received my copy of Tarzan CE yesterday from Reel and it is excellent! the kids really enjoyed it and I thought the picture and sound quality was top notch! Didn't have time to get into the extras but there's always a rainy day.
Got mine for the incredible price of $11.99 shipped.
Don't ask how Reel came up with that final price.
