Does anyone have the DVD for the Steven Soderberg film, "The Underneath". I've seen the movie, so I'm looking for a review of the transfer and any extras on the DVD,

This film is on DVD? I did not know that.
This brings to an end another useful post by Blip. ------------------ "If it were all in the script, why make the film?"--Nicholas Ray |
The transfer is very good: very crisp, nice detail, especially for the dark cabin scene. It is presented in widescreen (2.35), non-anamorphic, but that didn't bother me. The audio is good, considering that it is a dialogue, and not effects driven film. There are no extras to speak of, just a trailer and some bios. Unfortunately, there isn't a commentary or deleted scenes on the DVD.

There is a really cool "widescreen vs pan & scan" feature on the disc that shows one scene in both formats. They split the scrren so you can do a "real-time" comparison. I wish all discs would include something like his. It would an invaluable too to convince p&s people.

Thanks for the reviews. I picked it up a few days ago, and I'm very happy with the transfer. It's too bad that "Criss Cross" (1949) is not available on DVD. These two films would make a great double feature. Both are very good films, based on the same book, and made by two talented directors (Steven Soderberg and Robert Siodmak).
