I read somewhere that the "original ending" that has been included in the SE is limited to the story-boarded stages of the idea.

Because it hasn't streeted yet, I don't have it to review for you, but here are a couple of Internet reviews:

Sounds like a great set. I've been hoping they'd give The Birds this sort of treatment ever since I got Vertigo and Psycho.

Note that the alternate ending is storyboards/script excerpts only, but that is due to the fact that it was never actually filmed.
