The movie was definitely one of the best films of 97 and received no attention from the public nor the academy. Some speculate it's because a black movie has to be a "ghetto" movie to get any attention. That might be true. Simply put, if you haven't seen this film yet... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???!!! It's sublime, it's wonderful, it's a feast for the mind and the eyes.
The DVD does justice to this movie. It's not anamorphic but definitely one of the best transfers to date. The 5.1 audio is quite good as well. Extras a plenty, the best being a short film (20 minutes) by Kasi Lemmons. Both the feature film and the short film have commentaries. Along with that, there is a trailer and an music presentation with a song from the movie. Again, this disc a must own, and if you haven't seen it yet.. see it already http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif |
Thanks for the review; I've been meaning to rent this one. Roger Ebert called it the best film of '97, so it must be worth seeing.
