I know Fox Lorber disc arent reputed to be of any quality but I was wondering if any one has seen this one and how this disc looks and sounds? Is it any good or should I spend my bucks on something else?

Thank you!

i don't have the DVD with me so the following notes are from memory.

the video transfer itself looked fine, but the film's original 2.35:1 scope is here letterboxed to 1.85:1 (non-anamorphic). the image is also raised for video generated (but non-removable) subtitles in the bottom matted area. Fox Lorber appeared to have been over-ambitious with the choice of a serif font, and it anti-aliases poorly to the 4-level opacity available for DVD subtitles. the result sometimes flickers and just plain looks bad.

the Dolby 2.0 soundtrack is natural and otherwise unremarkable.

in all, the premium retail price ($35 MSRP) for this DVD is of dubious merit. it bears an interesting amalgamation of compromises and hacks that nonetheless remains watchable, rentable, and just maybe keepable.

It wasn't by any means the worst looking transfer I've seen, but it definitely could have been better. Especially for a film with breathtaking photography.
