Playing By Heart has got to be the barest among bare bones DVDs. (Literally movie only)However, the movie features a great cast with great acting performance. Perfect for rentals!

I'd second the recommendation of a rental.

The movie itself...so-so. Sean Connery and Gena Rowlands had chemistry. Jon Stewart and Gillian Anderson had chemistry. Ryan Phillippe was okay (though still better than he normally is, which is not saying much). I could have done without the characters played by Madeline Stowe, Anthony Edwards, Jay Mohr, Ellen Burstyn and Dennis Quaid.

The editing was too fast, the script too coy, the direction too generic, etc. Angelina Jolie gives the film's standout performance; her character Joan, as well as Meredith and Trent (played by Anderson and Stewart) were the only ones who kept my attention. I regard "Playing by Heart" as a missed opportunity, it is a marginally good movie (it retains a level of interest but is ultimately forgettable) that could have been better. That said, I do think the DVD should have contained more extras.

The DVD should have contained the right aspect ratio, too.
