Does anybody plan to purchase Cinema Paradiso on DVD? Do you know if this is the full-length version, or has it been cut? The info says it's 120 minutes long, I thought it was more like 145 minutes when I watched it on VHS.

This is one of the greatest film ever made. Very sentimental and emotional.

This DVD will be a shorten version which is only 120 min. Actually director's cut is over 170 min. But HBO don't have the right of this longer version. So i don't believe that HBO will release the director's cut in the near future.

I saw this movie for just the second time a couple months ago when a local art house theater did a revival. I saw it when it was originally released in the U.S. (back in '90 or '91?). Maybe I was just too young at the time, but I just didn't get the film back then. When I saw it a couple months ago though, it just blew me away . It really made me into a big fan of this movie.

I'm not sure which version I saw though. What are some of the differences between the director's cut at the 120-minute version?

And who has the rights to the director's cut?

It is a great movie that I would recommend to anyone. I've never seen the un-cut version. Anybody care to enlighten me?

I would like to be enlighted as to the differences on these cuts as well. I want the original theater release and I somehow doubt this isn't the original theater release.

Thanks

All I can say is that I am going the buy this film. No matter what "cut" it is and will buy any additional version that is released!

I was in school when the film made it to the U.S. and held "discovered" "foreign" films just a year or two before. I loved foreign films then and still do now, but this film was well above any foriegn film I had seen at the time and likely seen since then. I haven't seen the film since I originally saw it in the original U.S. release, but I want it and will buy all DVD versions.

In three words: Buy This Movie.

I'm looking forward to this DVD, regardless of what cut it is...

Back to the topic, since it is not a review/review request I'm moving it to the Talk forum.
