I immediately bought it when I saw it on sale at Virgin Megastore...now..I don't like retail..but..I got so excited because this type of genre is not hardly found on dvd..fantasy. Plus I get too many deals online that just simply once a year for a retail price just doesnt hurt me. (By the way..I noticed that these stores carry all the latest titles that some online stores takes days to get..every store had a stack of Halloween LE..and the I know what you did/I still know what 2-dvdset looks so cool!) Enough, here's my opinion about the great awesome Labyrinth from Jim Henson and George Lucas.
First the 55 minute documentary was great. I'm glad to meet Jim Henson and study the way this smart and great individual (rest in peace) created such a great fantasy like movie made just out of puppets. No easy feat, but for Henson, hey, piece of cake. I saw the way they made the puppets and how some special effects were done. I was really impressed how they managed to do those things without giving it away in the actual movie..who ever thought? Thats what I said to myself. The video quality is great. In a few..very few..dark scenes you see grain...but not as intense as let's say...Fright Night. In light day scenes..the image is just superb. The Dolby Digital 2.0 is clear sounding and very, very crisp. When David Bowie sings his tunes they sound...crisp..and clear. The sound does not sound...old..coming from an old film like this one..impressive. Columbia once again responsible for a great job. http://forum.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif Overall movie I think in my opinion is awesome. The widescreen anamorphic movie is just beautiful..the colors are beautiful..especially on the puppets. This is a great Columbia Transfer made coming from such an old film. Has three theaterical trailers 1) Labyrinth 2) Dark Crystal 3) The Storyteller Well I really did not want to wait for next week to get it..so thats the end of that. ***** stars. I can't wait for this title to come in the mail, along with the Dark Crystal!!! I love how they are releasing some of these 80's films that I used to watch as a kid, like Return to OZ and others. I can't wait till the Goonies is released as well as the Never Ending Story.
I am curious because you mentioned that the sound was Dolby Pro Logic. On some web sites, it lists it as Dolby Digital 2.0. Which is correct, because it would be a shame if they only released the title in Pro logic. |

I apologize for the misdirection on the sound..you are correct buddy..it's 2.0 dolby digital. (I put that in my review! The sound is way better than prologic!) http://forum.dvdtalk.com/ubb/biggrin.gif! The power of voodoo! |
