I have been using Twister. Is there anything as good or better? Please give the best scenes in each movie. Thanks!

I don't have Twister (yet), so I can't say how this compares, but the scene in True Lies where Harry (Arnold) takes the Harrier jet sounds fantastic. With DD 5.1 this sounds like you are there. I use one of the following:
Twister Antz or to show off special features: Out of Sight The Thing Dragonheart Tomorrow Never Dies:SE |
If you have a DTS capable system, I can heartily reccommend the DTS demo disc #3.
The DVD Spectacular also has all the Dolby Digital Trailers (Train, City, Egypt, Canyon) as well as a live performance of the 1812 overture done to show off Dolby Digital (haven't listened to it yet, I got it for the trailers) Das Boot (the second side when they're diving to escape the depth charges) is a great demonstration of DD movie sound effects too. -David |
I have been using Diehard 1.
Start at the scene titled "Send in the truck" You get the sounds of the armored tank, the shoulder rocket, and the blast from Bruce Willis strapping C-4 to a chair and tossing it down the elevator shaft. Truly rattles the walls. Any more recommendations out there for me to use? |
I always use the first four minutes of Lost in Space. Incredible explosions and outstanding surround sound placement. If you have a system with heavy duty bass you will impress any and everyone, as I do all the time.
|
I like to demo the first 10 minutes of Casino.
The bright neon lights in the begining are perfect to show the video and the opera-style singing goes hand-in-hand for the audio. |
The THX 15th Anniversary Trailer DVD. They don't sell this disc, but if you buy enough THX stuff your local dealer might be able to get you one. It has all the THX Movie trailers from the past 15 years. Awesome sound & picture quality. I particularly like "The Simpsons" trailer.

When "HEAT" comes out on July 27, the downtown shoot-out scene would make a great demo to show off system.

For me, either "The Exorcist"(SE), "Alien" or "Contact".

If you are looking for excellent panning movie then Dragonheart is your movie. There is a excellent scene where Draco flies around you several times while talking. Very cool.
|
I would have to go with the fifth element.
I especially like the scene where lelu fights while the opera singer sings. It really demonstrates the incredible range of DD. |
Well, I recently rented the IMAX 'Super Speedway' and the 5.1 sound is AWESOME!!!
Several scenes have the sound very distinctly panning left/right/left in front and in back of you, comming from behind up the left & right side - it's just totally cool. There's not a whole lot of LFE (the engines in these cars are reving 14000 RPM) The visuals are also spectacular - I'm really sorry I missed this on the 80' IMAX screen. This dvd is now ordered and will be my demo. Erik |
I would have to in Air Force One, start at the scene when the Russians first take over the plane. All the gun fire is awesome. That leads into the scene with the U.S. fighters coming to the rescue. You can feel the fighters fly around you.

Hi, Blade,
Could you please tell me where I can get that "DTS Demo Disc #3"? Thanks. |
mslee,
Occasionally someone will offer a copy for trade in the Exchange forum (that's how I got my first copy). You can also find it at ebay for about $50-$60. About a month or so ago, someone had the bright idea of emailing www.dtsonline.com at [email protected]. Wonder of wonders, they actually just sent the #3 demo disk and a DTS cd with some great music. And at no charge. So I'd try asking them for a copy of the DTS demo disk (the one with the Titanic trailer) "so I can show off the DTS capabilities of my home theater to all my friends." Good luck, -David |

Air Force One is what I use to demo my DD setup.
You can hear those jets circle around it. And the gunfire is incredible!!! |
The Fifth Element.
Besides the very impreesive gun scenes, put on the opera portion and let the visual and sound enwrap you! |
The DVD's that are used in the retail stores to demonstrate their large screen TV's and surround sound systems are.
Star Ship Troopers Fifth Element Air Force one Others that I use are A Bugs Life Lost In Space Armageddon Tomorrow Never Dies Dragon Heart |
Keep in mind that DVDs a store can use in a demo is somewhat limited. They most likely will not show a DVD with nudity or tons of violence.
My best overall demo disc for extras/menus/sound is TND: SE |
How about The Mask of Zoro.. The trailer has great high and pretty good lows int he sound... and of course it is a Columbia / Tristar video.. so the picture is fantastic.
