Is this movie bad? Horrible? Boring?
Is this movie Great? Exciting? Wonderful?
Is this movie worth buying? Owning? Purchasing?

Tell me anyone about this movie..i never seen it. I am looking for opinions. http://www.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif

The movie got horrible reviews, and a lot of people hate it. But I have to list it as a guilty pleasure. Not as good as the book, but it doesn`t take itself too seriously and has a fun spirit to it. Good cast, good effects, silly but fast moving. I enjoyed it enough to pre-order it. Flame on, people!

Essentially, everything I've ever heard or read about this movie is that it sucked. One of these days I'll rent it and judge for myself...

Not as good as the book? Actually, I've heard many times that even the book wasn't all that good...

I really liked the movie, but it definitely falls under the category of guilty pleasure.

It's a pretty over the top jungle adveture "find the resource for an advanced technological marvel" type of film.

But I liked it's attitude.

You might want to rent the tape or check the cable guide first though.

I thought that this movie was really, really, Really, well, just not good. It was a bad movie, but also a boring movie. Kind of like a guilty pleasure without the pleasure. one of those things that makes you wish you had those two hours of your life back. The book wasn't very good, but it was much better than the movie.

Reasons for owning CONGO.

1. Will make your DVD collection look bigger(size does matter don't let the women fool you)
2. Will make a great drink coaster.
3. You get to see how Ernie Hudson screws up a fake British accent.
4. You get to see Monkeys use lasers http://www.dvdtalk.com/ubb/wink.gif

Blade 07-23-99 10:56 PM

Forgot to mention that having never read the book probably helped me to enjoy the movie a lot more than otherwise.

I thought the book was entertaining, but the movie is pure drivel. The acting is terrible, the guy in the ape suit is totally unbelievable and the effects are mediocre at best. If you have to see this one, rent it, don't buy it.

Overall, the movie was pretty good (okay, guilty pleasure I guess). The only part that bored me was the beginning background info about Amy - now that was boring. I did preorder this and look forward to hearing it on my system next weekend!

The trailer looked pretty cool for this film and I remember thinking it was going to be good. However, in my opinion, it was one of the (if not THE) worst movies to come out that year. Horrible acting (the only minorly interesting character played by Bruce Campbell gets killed off in the first 2 minutes of the film), bad special effects, incredibly stupid dialogue, poor action sequences, etc. And that ape (the good one that "talked") was REALLY irritating. The worst movie based on a Crichton novel EVER.

Just totally worthless. And I have enjoyed all the other Michael Crichton movies (Jurassic Park, Disclosure, Rising Sun, Lost World, etc.--haven't seen Sphere though).

Don't forget this movie had a cameo of Doom.

I was hooked after that moment.

It has my vote http://www.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif
