I was just watching ToyStory on LD, and I was wondering why aren't they releasing all this good stuff that came with movies such as "Nightmare before Xtmas" or "Toy Story" on DVD??? I noticed Disney put on DVD stuff like "Beauty and The Beast 2" or "Bug's life", but why not any of the good old stuff??

Nightmare Before Xmas is on DVD. I'm not sure how it's feature set compares to the LD though.

Toy Story is rumoured to be released on DVD as a promotion for Toy Story 2 due out this xmas. Keep your fingers crossed.

Personally I think Bug's Life is some of the good stuff. http://www.dvdtalk.com/ubb/wink.gif

As for the rest of the catalog, Disney says they have some titles planned for the end of the year, but they haven't said what those are yet. You can be sure they will be posted when they're announced!

But why they haven't relesed any major titles probably has to do with the newness of the format and Disney's Classics release program.

They're probably still evaluating how to pick titles to release to DVD.

You may have noticed that if you tried to buy The Lion King, Sleeping Beauty, or even Toy Story right now, you'd be pretty hard pressed to find copies available. Disney rereleases their titles every few years or so to introduce them to the next generation of children.

I think we will see some classic titles on dvd as these release dates come up again. The question then, will be what will they come with. 16x9 xfers (doubtful), full LD feature set (possible, still a little doubtful)? I think they may dole out the features incrementaly so that people will keep buying the disk everytime they reissue it.

There was a wonderful box set of Nightmare Before Christmas with tons of cool extras. I have both it and the DVD.

An editor on "Tarzan" told me Disney wants to wait just a little longer for the format to grow so they can get more bang for their buck. He said the buzz is for releases to begin X-mas '99. Rumour has it to be on the lookout for the release of "Fantasia" to coincide with IMAX's "Fantasia 2000".

Who can we call!

Disney had Dumbo, & Alice in Wonderland on DIVX, but now that is dead. I did not want to pay each time my kids wanted to see it (typ. 20+ times).

They have Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland, Lion King 2, Alladin 2 in Region 2 with 0 extras.
The typical price after conversion to USD is $28+. I have a DVD/ROM, so I can get see it,
but that leaves out other DVD buyers!

The Laser Disks have what we want on DVD.
Toy Story;Comm.,Making of,Artwork, Booklet.
Hunchback;Comm.,Deleted Songs, Prod. Notes.
LionKing;Comm.,Making of,Artwork,Lithographs.
Bambi;2 trilers,TV Special w/Walt,Artwork.
SnowWhite;Stereo,Making of,Del.Scenes,MORE!
Mermaid;Making of,Artwork,Design Work.
PeterPan;Featurette,Storyboard, Artwork.

And the list goes on!
Typ. Laserdisk $50 or $100!!

Universal will put out a Special Edition of
a movie and it will be special!!
The Thing, The Boxer, 12 Monkeys,Apollo13, etc., at a normal price of $20+.
I WILL pay $20+ for a great movie with great
extras!!

Who can we call, who can we write!!

I know they stink, but busniess men will
want to make a profit if they see a demand.

Or should I just fold and get a laser disk
player and the laser disks, and a 2nd job!

You forgot the Lion King Box set. It is crammed with extra's. The movie is CAV on two disc and the box contains TWO more disc's of extra stuff. and there is a booklet included with artwork and more stuff.

This movie REQUIRES anamorphic before it goes to DVD, the laser is beautiful.
