I'll add to this once I've gone over all of the features, as thus far I've only watched the movie. Anyone who has watched this DVD, please post your comments (I'm interested in hearing thoughts on the commentary ala Mystery Science Theater).
The Transfer: As the disc is from Columbia, I was expecting a top-notch transfer, and I was not disappointed. Widescreen, preserving it's original 2.35:1 screen aspect ratio, the picture is mostly clear, with the exception of a few blemishes that were not overly attention-grabbing. Overall, image quality was sharp and detailed. Sound: The soundtrack, presented in DD 5.1, is very good. The dialogue is all clear, and the score sounded great. Had GB been made recently, with the filmmakers aware of the home theater technology that could be utilized, I think many of the effects would have been much louder. No comments on the extras yet, but the menus are among the coolest I've ever seen. --Heather ------------------ http://www.dvdtracker.com/~ahber16.asp |

I liked the overall package and I thought this new type of commentary is cool but sometimes distracting.I do however, think this way to do commentary is GREAT http://www.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif.
I NEVER LIKED GB but when I heard of extras on this disc I had to get it. |
Loved the movie!! Loved the DVD!!
The extras were great....it felt totally hightech with 3D animations and stuff all over....some cool deleted scenes....AWESOME and plenty art/conceptual artwork....funny commentary/trivia stuff...cool featurettes from 1999 and the original one as well. I specially liked the interviews with the FX guys too. This movie is so freaking funny I could watch it many many times. Bill Murray made the movie for me....non-stop laughing...Plus I didn't know that some dialogue scenes were totally improvised, like the "symmetrical bookstacking", so freaking funny... But still this one can't compare to other comedy classics like "Young Frankenstein" (in my opinion) which I thought had some of the funniest scenes/funniest cast ever. C. |
I think the DVD is excellent. Great movie, wonderful picture, very powerful LFE channel gave the subs a workout, and the menus are fantastic. Did anyone catch the cab running the red light about a few seconds into the main menu sequence (lower left corner)? What a riot!

An excellent, groundbreaking disc. The perfect example of a company giving us exactly what we want - plenty of features, 16x9, and a low price. I can't think of anything that they could have added to this DVD except for maybe an isolated score, but that's a very, very minor thing. With all the current features, there might not have been any room for anything else.
Only complaint I can think of is that I am unable to view the video commentary, but I think that's the fault of my Hollywood Plus DVD decoder. Hopefully they can correct that in a future version of the driver or player. I certainly hope that Columbia is rewarded with excellent sales with this DVD. Perhaps then the other studios will take note of it's success and emulate it. |
I loved the disc overall BUT the video commentary doesn't work with my dvd-rom software... It is a 16:9 disc and the software just refuses to force 4:3...
Oh well. |
