Any comments on this title on DVD? Picture/sound quality? Any extras?

My friend has the DVD, which only contains the original trailer, and it looks and sounds marvelous. I, however, refuse to buy the DVD because I have the Deluxe Edition LaserDisc, which boasts almost-as-good picture and audio, both the original trailer and international trailer, production photographs, and a "Making of" documentary. If you can't track the LD down, or don't even have a LaserDisc player, you could do a lot worse than this DVD--the extras are disappointing, but the transfer has got it where it counts!

Hello Stuart,
Still one of my favorite movies! Considering the age (1982) of this film this MGM DVD looks good. Or to put it another way, with respect to quality, this is the best version available for home viewing. Both Pan & Scan and Widescreen (2.35:1, 16 X9 enhanced) are included. This title also has a DD 5.1 remix which sounds pretty good. Other then an 8 page trivia booklet, extra's consist of production notes and trailer. Sadly, that's about it. http://www.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif [This message has been edited by ed (edited 06-20-1999).] |
