I am just curious how good is this DVD, I am not talking about the DTS version either, just the CE.

Thanks

I rented this one and thought it was good. I saw it on my old reciever(Pro-Logic) but the sound and picture was still good. The movie was great because it was full of suprises.

This is one awesome dvd! One of my favorites. Picture and sound are great, and the extras are spectacular. The documentary on the making of the film runs over 90 minutes, and is the most entertaining and informative extra I have yet to encounter on dvd. There is also a commentary track with Terry Gilliam and someone else (can't remember who)
BTW, if you like 12 monkeys, be sure to check out Criterion's 3 disc SE of Brazil coming out next month!

Well I will have to save my pennies for that one. I do have The Fisher King, which in my opinion was not a bad disc. Since I posted this request for a review I have watched 12 Monkeys twice. I like it!

is this movie anamorphic?

polarbear 06-13-99 02:28 AM

The box says anamorphic widescreen so I would say yes, mind you I have been known to be wrong. http://www.dvdtalk.com/ubb/smile.gif

The Zizz 06-13-99 11:22 PM

Yep, its anamorphic.

Hanson 06-18-99 08:57 PM

12 Monkey's is anamorphic, and it looks great. The sound is very good. But as a movie, it's a must own. I'm not a big fan of Gilliam (Fisher King is one of my most hated films and I have still never sat through Brazil without dozing off), but this film is a classic. I'm a sucker for time travel stories anyway, but this one is done very well. I didn't even mind the overly cute and eccentric Gilliam touches that made my skin crawl in Fisher King.

As far as extras, this one has the longest documentary I've seen on a DVD, and the commentary track has some interesting insights into the making of the film (the anecdote about which kid to use is fascinating). The making even has chapters -- many making of's don't have chapter breaks or even a clock.

A great flick, eminently reviewable with lots of extras. Well worth the money.
