Re: "Linnea Quigley's Horror Workout" Reviews/Discussion - 2023 Horror Challenge

I can appreciate that this video was a spoof of the Jane Fonda/Susan Powter aerobics VHS tapes that sold like hotcakes in the 80s, but this just plain sucked. Watching actors in bad zombie makeup doing tap movements bored me, and as a fella who likes fellas, watching Linnea and her gal pals frolic in their underwear did nothing for me.

I can concur with Gobear's assessment.

I watched this several years ago (2019 to be exact) during that challenge and I don't see me rewatching this for this year's challenge. It is silly, goes on way too long and is not very funny or entertaining.

And I am a fella that likes gals.

My rating then: **1/2 out of *****
(and that was probably being generous)

Re: "Linnea Quigley's Horror Workout" Reviews/Discussion - 2023 Horror Challenge

More humorous in concept than execution it's value ends up being in how shameless it gets. I loved the zombie segment because it seemed so cheesy and fun and quite ridiculous but unabashedly so. The slasher ending was clever enough for the content that came before it. I'm glad to have finally watched this, and to have done so without my wife or kids judging me for it, but am not sure I will revisit it any time soon. I'd be curious to see how Linnea Quigley was sold on this, it doesn't seem like the sort of film that would get made today and more credit to her for having a sense of humor about the scream queen / sex symbol status.

I actually put this on on YouTube at the gym last year. Not bad to work out to.

I watched the similar-ish Hot Tub Party Massacre as well and that was bad

Linnea Quigley goes through some highlights as a Horror scream queen while working out to a merciless Casio keyboard. I would have loved to take a sledge hammer to that god damn keyboard. I give it one star for being mercifully short at 56 minutes.

2/10

I think itís a pretty fun little ďmovieĒ. Yeah itís stupid, but thatís obviously the point.
Iím not gonna watch it every year or anything, but Iíll throw it on occasionally and laugh.

It’s unashamedly gratuitous and campy. Depending on my mood, I could see myself hating it or tolerating it with chuckle. Today it was the latter. I even sat thru it again with the legacy commentary, but will forego the new track for now.

Re: "Linnea Quigley's Horror Workout" Reviews/Discussion - 2023 Horror Challenge

This was the last film I watched during my first ever OHMC. And I was ecstatic to finally upgrade my old bootleg convention VHS to a crystal clear Blu-Ray! That being said, what can I say about the Linnea Quigley Workout that hasn’t been said before? So I decided this time I would do the workout! I found many early poses impossible to attain due to Quigley’s superhuman flexibility but after the first segment the workouts are a lot easier to follow, even for mostly out of shape me and I broke a sweat which is really the key thing with a workout video. Also this fixes my main gripe with most workout videos; the lack of gore, nudity and B-movie clips. So all around a win win. (1 star bump from my previous score due to being able to actually see it now (and this is a movie where seeing is the important part)). Now to listen to the audio commentary!

3.5/5

Re: "Linnea Quigley's Horror Workout" Reviews/Discussion - 2023 Horror Challenge

This was my first revisit in several years and it puts a smile on my face every time.

The Blu-ray did reveal a few things. 1. One of the slumber party girls was Cynthia Garris (wife of Mick Garris) who's also the choreographer. The tall blonde one. 2. Linnea's left boob occasionally pops out at the zombie pool scene, which I don't recall noticing on the VHS. I guess that's a selling point for the crystal clear clarity of the Blu-ray (chose the ultra sharp 'AI Upconvert' and 5.1, despite sounding like an echo chamber). 3. Unfortunately it really showcases just how atrocious the zombie makeup is. It's too bad she didn't convince her effects hubby at the time to do it.

I always think Kellie Maroney's in this but that must be the hot tub one.

This was really boring. To top it off, the Tubi link is censored, not just nudity but language as well. Lame.

Took 50 minutes to finally get into any action. Could have done that part and a better zombie dance, call it a day. Thankfully rings at just an hour. I'm curious how much she gets paid for these movies. Just glad to be done with this snorefest.

Commentaries:

Well, that was a good idea until I got to the second track. For anyone so inclined I would recommend against the new audio commentary and it's myriad of Zoom problems and largely retold stories and just stick with the original 2005 DVD commentary, which this whole time I thought that DVD was another bootleg so I never bothered to acquire it! For both tracks you get Linnea and the director (with a moderator from Terror Vision on the new commentary). And there are several interesting little stories about production and cast and crew issues. But man having everyone in one room for commentaries... come on boutique blu-ray companies, no one likes Zoom commentaries, no one! Favorite line from the original commentary from Ms. Quigley: "I had that arm for a long time, until it melted in the garage...unfortunately".

Re: "Linnea Quigley's Horror Workout" Reviews/Discussion - 2023 Horror Challenge

This is truly awful. I can't figure out who the audience is for this. I mean, what is the purpose? The exercise segments were so long that you'd think the video was meant to actually be an exercise video. But then they're broken up with other stuff, so you'd have to fast-forward past these segments. There are endless video scenes from LQ's movies, so it's like a vanity/audition reel. And then the "stretching" routine is basically soft porn aimed at fan boys but they would be bored to tears sitting through most of this.

In sum, this video makes no sense. Even at only one hour, it was a tedious chore to sit through.

LOL, some of these comments are hilarious. I want to go out on a limb and say as a fella, who likes females, this really didn't do it for me.

It's already been said more elegantly by those above me, but I don't want to pile more vitriol on this movie. The one positive is that I got on the bike and kept up with the beat during the aerobic sessions. This one went by in a flash, and that's a good thing.

Re: "Linnea Quigley's Horror Workout" Reviews/Discussion - 2023 Horror Challenge

Speaking as a gal who likes gals, this was entertaining for a few minutes during Linnea's opening workout, then it quickly got tedious. There were a few chuckles to be had, but after the opening segment, they were few and far between. As others have stated, the workout sessions just go on and on with boring repetitive music. Also, I watched on Tubi with the censored language and nudity. It wouldn't have added anything worth paying for though, so I'll live with that. I also felt embarrassed to be watching it with my kids in the house, even though they are teenagers. Luckily they only segment they walked in during was the Zombie workout. They were asking what the music that was going on and on was, lol. Then they encouraged me to work out, so we danced with the Zombies for a couple of minutes as a goof. On the plus side, as others have said, at least it is mercifully short.

Well, because alyxstar's awesomeness, I decided to try to watch all the subset choices this year. That meant revisiting this atrocity even though I said I wouldn't.

Well, I was correct. I was being generous with my score of a 2.5 out of 5. I can't say anything more about this that hasn't already been said except I am dropping my score by a full point.

There is just no need for this. The only thing that would have made it better is if the zombies and the exercise girls were nude. But alas they are not which makes this a brutally dull watch.
