I really enjoyed the story, but the gore was just too much. I think this could have been a lot more effective had they not made it so over the top.

Loved the story, and it was well shot and acted. I guess I wouldn’t show it to “normies” due to the extreme gore; but I think I’m, sadly, becoming somewhat immune to all that personally now.

I loved the vague up in the air ending and the intense violence in much of the film along with the bookend bittersweet romance.
There was political subtext but it seemed so universally condemning it was hard to get a read on it - politicians and influencers dont believe science and that makes them savage but scientist are morally questionable rogues anyway (?).
Zombie movies should be awash in blood soaked hallways but stuff like the eye socket bit was excessive and pointless. The apparent victim who asked for the torture to continue was clever. However it seemed rare that the talking zombies said anything that elevated the film and often the cussing or overly exaggerated sexual banter distracted from the visuals which were enough to speak for themselves. Great to see so much of the effects are practical effects.
Its a bit weird to find zombie babies cliche but here we are.

My wife sat through the entire movie and upon the end said, ‘That was one fuc*ed up movie!’ I saw this when it came to Shudder, and forgot some of the things that went down. Felt it was well made, but I don’t really go for all that gore. Go figure...
Felt like this was taylor made for Covid times, with all the subtext and baggage that goes with it.

I thought it was gory but I have seen much worse before. Like Trevor said, I feel like I am definitely more immune to that sort of stuff nowadays, especially when it goes over the top like this movie does in several instances. After seeing all releases of The Human Centipede and the original Martyrs, it takes a lot to shake me. I get more creeped out by what isn't seen because typically too much is shown, and nothing is left to the imagination anymore.
But I did enjoy this film. Seemed well made for the likely lower budget it had and almost all practical effects which always jumps up the score in my book. And thank goodness they didn't go the digital blood route in this which would have ruined the entire movie. Yeah, the eyeball fucking was excessive but at least they didn't attempt to show it.
My biggest gripe in the movie was the lack of knowledge in how the virus is transferred. The rules are quite obvious in movies like 28 Days Later, but the catching of this virus seemed to have zero rhyme or reason in this film. The exposition spouting guy in the final third was welcome in answering some of my questions, but this main issue was never addressed, unless I completely missed something. And the actions of the "zombies" vs. the living never seemed to explain it either. And also, why are some "zombies" babbling idiots while others seemed to be completely aware and intelligent but just excessively violent?
Anyway, loved the practical effects. The acting was solid. Camera work and editing was good. Other than my minor complaints above and the sometimes-ridiculous dialogue (maybe a translation issue?), this movie was quite enjoyable and held my attention the entire time.
My rating: ***1/2 out of *****

A gory, wild ride that is just as good with repeat viewings. Sometimes it seemed like the film was a series of gore set pieces just for the sake of gore and there were some silly moments (grenades will do more than blow off a person's head) that affected the overall serious tone, so I cant give it a perfect score.
8/10.

I did appreciate certain touches like all the masks, and the people recording the carnage on their phones, as well as the speculation of the source of the virus. But yes, the gore was a bit much at times.

Really enjoyed this. People being fully aware of what they are doing but not being able to stop, gave it that extra kick.

The gore and brutality was a bit much for me too although I did appreciate the practical effects and CGI work. The characters did help balance the film.

For the most part, I really liked this one. It was intense and brutal, though sometimes maybe a bit over the top.
My issues with the movie are the same as Spiderbite. I didn't really get the internal logic. The vomiting was clearly one source of transmission, so you expect that to be a more frequent occurrence. Instead, it's not used all that often. It almost feels like it's airborne and then triggered by emotion. I don't know, and the virologist didn't really clear it up for me. He said the infected won't attack its own. Does that mean the guy getting brutalized by that gang of kids was not infected? It also bugged me how some seemed to be more like zombies and others seemed aware but just unleashed and violent.
Despite the picking apart, it was a very good film but might be too much for those unaccustomed to the level of blood and violence.
