______________________________

Attending a theatrical showing allows you to obtain a bonus entry. If you missed a day, this means you can still check off the subset list as being complete.

The same goes for attending a live event such as a horror convention, haunted house, play, ghost tour, etc. You have one.

These "October Horror Movie Challenge" threads are for the discussion of the films in the 31 FILM SUBSET list.

The plan is for everyone to watch this film on the October day in the thread title, and to start discussing it the morning of the following day.
You may start discussion early if you want, but the preferred plan is for this to be as much of a group exercise as possible, with all of us viewing it "together" and discussing after.

Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day.
Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.

Spoiler tags aren't always used in here, so if you have yet to see the film BEWARE OF POSSIBLE SPOILERS.

Re: "Theatrical / VOD / Virtual Cinema Showing" Reviews/Discussion - 2022 Horror Challenge: Bonus Day

Saw Smile at a local theather. Sadly the image seemed strangely faded and it made me wonder about the effort and state of theaters today. The film itself was mediocre - a brilliantly abstract concept (smiles as a precusor to terror - contrasting the happy and the horrifying). It had some effective imegery and more than a few top tier jump scares. However pacing was marred by too many iffy subplots and it devolved from a great idea into something far too specific and familiar; creeping more and more towards a generic state at the end.

Re: "Theatrical / VOD / Virtual Cinema Showing" Reviews/Discussion - 2022 Horror Challenge: Bonus Day

This will almost definitely be the first year I skip this theatrical bonus subset day.

My RegalUnlimited expired months ago, found I wasn’t using it much in this age of near or same day streaming release.

Almost went to the Fathom event double feature yesterday, it was Phantom of the Opera and Creature From the Black Lagoon, but decided I needed the time to finish my checklist and 100 comic book reads for the month.

Checked the newer theater in town and they had Casper this afternoon for $5.

It’s a nice place with recliners and more food options, and much cheaper pricing than Regal. Plus Jen doesn’t like most horror, so this turned into a nice little date day to give her a break from the rest of the month she’d endured.
