These "October Horror Movie Challenge" threads are for the discussion of the films in the 31 FILM SUBSET list.
The plan is for everyone to watch this film on the October day in the thread title, and to start discussing it the morning of the following day.
You may start discussion early if you want, but the preferred plan is for this to be as much of a group exercise as possible, with all of us viewing it "together" and discussing after.
Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day.
Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.
Spoiler tags aren't always used in here, so if you have yet to see the film BEWARE OF POSSIBLE SPOILERS.

A gruesome, sleazy slasher from Fulci. Great story and great kills. The kills are very uncomfortable to watch. The idea of a killer using a Donald Duck voice is a master stroke.

I do think this is one of Fulci's better films. The kills are pretty gruesome, and the voice is hilarious. He really packs on the sleaze, too. The film is just oozing with it. Probably not the best movie for first thing in the morning.
The foot scene is one of the more bizarre scenes. And people think Tarantino has a thing with feet.

I cannot think of a more prime zeitgeist to revisit The Ripper than 70s-80s New York, that seems like brilliant staging. The kills are excellent gorey fun. New York Ripper is one of Fulci's best film (it seems fresher and more focused than a lot of his other stuff, even though I am a fan).
Fulci makes a cameo as the police chief.
The UHD disc looks excellent - I feel like I could smell the polyester.
Spoiler. The premise of a father who kills pretty promiscuous women because his daughter will not live to her sexual prime is a provocative twist - usually parents would not pine for that possibility. It's a sensational mix of cutting through swaths of sleaze with an innocence at the core. The duck voice is a great chilling highlight to these themes.

This is the New York that was before my time and I always love to see on film.
I liked this one and the soundtrack fucking rules. Glad I got that blue underground set with the cd. I’m really bummed I can’t fit in everything I wanted to watch today, but between work, covid testing and attempting to vote it’ll just be this and Maniac tonight.

Nipple slice... don’t think I’ve seen that before. Nice gore effects in this one!

Delightfully sleazy. Nice to visit a slice of NY that is practically gone. It was pretty amazing looking at the marquees, and seeing all the delightful kung-fu movies interspersed with exploitation. Glad we got exposed to the murderer early on, rather than keeping him in the shadows. That quacking sure was off putting and laughable at times.

I saw this years ago, but I honestly did not remember who the killer was, which was a good thing. I remembered the duck voice though! Yes, it was definitely sleezy. But I loved how NYC was featured. Good stuff.
