The Devil Rides Out is one of Hammer's most ambitious film adaptations due to the various special effects needed to mimic the storyline of Dennis Wheatley's famous novel. The film is widely considered Terence Fisher's best film and one of Christopher Lee's personal favorites. Hammer did a fabulous job given the economic resources and technology available in the 60's
The Devil Rides Out is one of the stand out films in the Hammer library and one of the films that comes readily to mind when I think of films that would be great to be remade with today's technology.

Agreed on all counts. This is a great one from Hammer. I also like that Christopher Lee gets to play the hero in this one since he's so often associated as a villain. And I was also thinking about how today's effects would really benefit the story. I'm also happy this one was picked because it gave me the excuse to buy the Blu-ray.

This was great. I have a fair amount of Hammer in my collection but films likes this remind me I need more.

I've lost count of the number of times I've watched this movie. I come back to it every one or two years and it's always fresh. Both Lee and Gray are compelling as Duc de Richleau and Mocata respectively.

My favorite Hammer film. Always a pleasure to rewatch it. I love how they pull in realistic magic/witchcraft esoterica (probably down to Wheatley's novel). And, yes, it's nice to see Christopher Lee as the hero. The whole cast is great. 5/5

I hadn't seen this before, but it was pretty good. Always enjoy Christopher Lee in pretty well any role.

TCM shows this every October and I never miss it. It's so rare for Lee to have a heroic role when he usually plays monsters in Hammer films. I need to spring for the Scream Blu, but I know if I bite, it will go on sale for $10 like Candyman did after I bought it at $17. Lee is right in the commentary track that The Devil Rides Out could use a new remake with better effects.

This is the first time I've seen this film, and I really enjoyed it. I also enjoy it when Christopher Lee is the hero; that's one of the reasons I enjoy Horror Express so much - it's fun to see Lee and Cushing team up. I'm always fascinated by the portrayal of Satanists in movies. They are often so ineffectual and seem to only want to live comfortably. This coven just wants to have a rave and some polite conversation! Honestly, those hideous red couches in the Eaton living room are more frightening then the bacchanal and summoning we see. I'll definitely watch for the Shout Factory disc to go on sale.

This is my favorite hammer movie, and I try to watch it every year. It just has so much going on, and gets right into it. 5 minutes in, you know what they're going against.

First time view -- I have been looking forward to watching this being a Hammer fan. It did not disappoint and the period setting was a great touch being contemporary with the novel. I look forward to revisiting it with the commentary.
BTW, Nike Arrighi is mesmerizing.

I had never seen this before that that was my favorite part about it. No lengthy exposition or background. Just straight into the story with the main characters. The writer and director let's you figure out on your own what is going on but it is laid out where it isn't confusing at all.
The two main characters are great. They should have made a series of sequels with them. Very enjoyable! I like the time zone twist as well and the way it was handled.
Thank you to Alyxstarr for the link. The transfer looked great! Love all the poster art as well, Chad!

This is one of my top 3 Hammer titles. I think Christopher Lee is fantastic in this one and I really love the astronomy tower set piece. I’ve had this UK DVD set for many years, and I’ve been thinking of upgrading to the Shout blu.

I also loved The Devil Rides Out, it's tense and has gravity. The effects are trippy and actors that chew scenery with the best of them really selling the film. That ending though... I don't think I quite understood it, or it was just too magical.
I watched similar themed Hammer film, To the Devil a Daughter, and that one was way less awesome.
