Paul Naschy mixes Japanese culture with a werewolf and even takes on a tiger in this entertaining werewolf film. A bit to self indulgent at a two hour run time however. 6.5/10

Man, this is a real talkie! My wife, who normally sits stone silent the entire movie, turned into a heartless movie critic this evening. I think she was expecting more of the Mondo cover and less samurai thriller, where samurai are referred to as 'Amigo' and 'Seņor'. We had fun with it and that's a big plus. 5/10

What a mash-up! From Euro/witches/curses to Japan ninja and samaurai. The production values were very good--loved the costumes. They even had a live tiger.
I got ready for it to be over at about 1:30. It felt really long. But generally speaking, an interesting movie. 5/10.

I sometimes wonder about the connections between Naschy's werewolf films; I also watched Shadow of the Werewolf and think I liked that one a little better (but despite the Daninsky family name no obvious connection).
It is very strange to see samurai running around speaking enthusiastic spanish.
I think self indulgent is Nacshy's middle name. It's amusing to me how his films, like this one, often feature him as a fiend but a really sympathetic nice guy fiend who wants to help - he's like the nicest werewolf you'll ever meet. I think the mix of horror, niceness, and gonzo are what make Naschy films like this so great.

I'll agree that it felt longer than it needed to be, but I liked it. I find I like the mixture of martial arts and horror. The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires is another I really enjoy. I should really seek out more of those type.
Anyway, I appreciated that this werewolf was in more the classic Universal bipedal mode. After looking up some information about Naschy, I see be did the werewolf thing quite often.
I splurged on the two Blu-ray sets during the Shout sale. I'm looking forward to eventually checking out more of his stuff.
