These "October Horror Movie Challenge" threads are for the discussion of the films in the 31 FILM SUBSET list.

The plan is for everyone to watch this film on the October day in the thread title, and to start discussing it the morning of the following day.
You may start discussion early if you want, but the preferred plan is for this to be as much of a group exercise as possible, with all of us viewing it "together" and discussing after.

Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day.
Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.

Spoiler tags aren't always used in here, so if you have yet to see the film BEWARE OF POSSIBLE SPOILERS.

Well, it looks like there is no love for this movie. It was showing on Shudder when I picked it but it left last week. It is available on YouTube. Personally, I have a soft spot for Amicus movies and feel like this is one of their best. The first two installments are excellent and the third is good also. Unfortunately, this has some weaker stories but that happens quite often with anthology films. Still, I think when this came out these stories had a lot more punch too them. Time has taken away some of the zing, you have to watch this putting yourself back into the early 70's.

I came here with intention of calling it a Tales From the Crypt ripoff until I realized it was actually based on Tales From the Crypt comics and is considered a followup to the 1972 movie. With that in mind, it really did remind me a lot of the 1972 Tales From the Crypt movie. Anthology films aren't my favorite, just because they all follow the same formula. But I liked this one okay. the segment with the insurance guy burying himself alive was probably my favorite one, but the movie as a whole wasn't bad for an anthology film.

Good stuff. I love all of the Amicus/ EC horror anthology films not only for their Grand Guignol effects, but because they hired classically trained British actors who had learned their craft playing Shakespeare and Shaw.

When i was a wee tot, I lived in a small Kentucky town and extended relations lived across the Cumberland in Tennessee. In between the two towns there was a drive-in theater that faced the highway, so I would scrunch my little face against the car window and tried to see as much as I could in the minute or so that the screen was visible, and this was one of the movies that I was able to catch a glimpse as we drove.

I really enjoyed this. My favorite segment was either the buried alive one or the voodoo/painting one.

I love anthology films, and the Amicus ones especially, but feel this is perhaps their weakest one. Still enjoyable, and perhaps I’d feel differently if I hadn’t very recently watched TftC.

I enjoyed Vault of Horror tonight, maybe I was just in a good state of mind for it. I especially liked the vampire one and the wraparound story is neat.

I grew up on these Amicus films, so I had a good bit of fun with this one. Really liked the segment with the struggling artist. I guess voodoo and art should never mix.

A lower tier entry in the Amicus anthology films, but still a great watch with some good performances by Tom Baker and Terry Thomas

It's not Trick r Treat or Creepshow but it was still enjoyable. Had a few good stories and acting was decent. Might watch again down the line.

Not bad overall, I liked the mirror reveal in the first one. The '70s sure were swanky!
