These "October Horror Movie Challenge" threads are for the discussion of the films in the 31 FILM SUBSET list.

The plan is for everyone to watch this film on the October day in the thread title, and to start discussing it the morning of the following day.
You may start discussion early if you want, but the preferred plan is for this to be as much of a group exercise as possible, with all of us viewing it "together" and discussing after.

Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day.
Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.

Spoiler tags aren't always used in here, so if you have yet to see the film BEWARE OF POSSIBLE SPOILERS.

I can't watch this thing, it's in Mandarin. The packaging clearly says Cantonese.....

Hope you guys don't tear me a new one for having picked this, but I love Shaw Bros Asian Horror. It is typically bat-shit crazy and this film did not disappoint. The last 15min is ridiculous. Rape/Revenge/Black Magic.

I love Shaw Brothers kung-fu, so this will be a first for me. Isn't this the tile everyone is freaking out about the audio tracks?

I don't think I'd be driven to independently seek out Shaw Brothers horror films but when I have seen them (I think because numbercruncher recommends them) I always end up enjoying it. It's clear these films were made to entertain and they delivery. The dead wife really mummified quickly here but what a great visual and the baby at the end is top notch. I love the dark cartoonishness of the film.

"Your wife's spirit will now have sex with him" - what?!?

What?! This was great! Might have been my first Shaw horror. Won't be the last.

I was hoping I would have my 88Films disk by now, but it's been in Zavvi limbo for over a month.

Yes, this is like no Shaw Brothers movie I've ever seen.

Got a little too strange for me at the end and have no idea what happened. I did chuckle a bit during the exorcism scenes. Over all a good movie I just need time to watch it again and see if I can understand the ending a bit better.

Angry mob chases grave robber through the village as they demand blood.
(grave robber gets hit by car)
angry mob: "Shit, let's get the fuck out of here!"

"Don't be afraid, I'm not dead yet."
is what my bartender hears when I ask for one more shot of bourbon.

"I know black magic."
He can make two eyebrows become one.

The Tsui Jiao Garden. Much preferable to the Olive Garden.

Re: "Seeding of a Ghost" Reviews/Discussion - 2017 Horror Challenge

I hate card game scenes in movies. If it aint Go Fish, I'm gonna be lost. Casino Royale was torture for me.

Brother Ming is the Pepe Le Pew of Chinese horror. SHE DOESN'T WANT TO GO OUT WITH YOU, BRO.

Ooh, slow motion titties.

DaveyJoe 10-19-17 02:50 AM

Re: "Seeding of a Ghost" Reviews/Discussion - 2017 Horror Challenge

I don't remember any prolonged shower scenes in The 36th Chamber of Shaolin. Now I'm just blushing.

Brother Ming rubbing his face down his mistress' body like a toothless bastard trying to eat corn on the cob. You gotta nibble if you want results, dude.

So far this is my favorite movie of the annual October Porno Movie Challenge. OPMC for life.
Throw some Connie Francis on the soundtrack, cut out a bunch of frames and suddenly we got a Wong Kar Wai film on our hands.

Re: "Seeding of a Ghost" Reviews/Discussion - 2017 Horror Challenge

Oh no, she wants to leave her husband and make things Facebook official. There should be an emotional prenup you can sign with your mistress so things don't reach this point.

These fucking idiots couldn't force the girl into their car because she kept kicking the door shut but IT'S A TOPLESS CAR. They literally just jumped out of the car by hopping over the doors. Stop trying to open the door, it's pointless!

Ah, the will they or won't they rape scene, I'm glad this is going on for so long.

DaveyJoe 10-19-17 04:14 AM

Re: "Seeding of a Ghost" Reviews/Discussion - 2017 Horror Challenge

Who doesn't remember peer pressure from our youth? Trying to look cool in front of your friends.
Smoking our first cigarette. Taking our first sip of alcohol. Raping a girl we just threw down the stairs. Such nostalgia.

Is it me or did they pull this guy in for questioning and give him a juice box??

So the husband saw "a red car" and they managed to catch the right suspects in all of Hong Kong? Impressive.

 I'm at the 1 hour mark. Should I take a shot to prepare myself?

Re: "Seeding of a Ghost" Reviews/Discussion - 2017 Horror Challenge

I know the swastika was originally an ancient Buddhist symbol, but it's still kind of tripping me out seeing it on this lady's headband.

"I won't dare help you again, you turned my house into a mess."
Um, I think it was the vengeful ghost that possessed you and turned this duplex into a Cat-3 hurricane, but sure, blame us.

These guys are coping with a supernatural revenge curse by catching happy hour at Applebee's.

DaveyJoe 10-19-17 05:05 AM

Re: "Seeding of a Ghost" Reviews/Discussion - 2017 Horror Challenge

Man I know I've been rooting for her to get revenge, but the resurrected corpse is starting to look like delicious beef jerky.

I'm not in a position to judge, but are they gonna stop to celebrate every small victory with coconut mixed drinks?

This guy's back is welting and boiling because of black magic but it's exactly what happens to my Irish skin when I have my shirt off in the sun for five minutes.

DaveyJoe 10-19-17 05:12 AM

Re: "Seeding of a Ghost" Reviews/Discussion - 2017 Horror Challenge

Uh oh, the souffle is boiling over.

"Your wife's spirit will now have sex with him."
Okay, dude, I think I want my money back.

Call me old fashioned, the rotting corpse/evil spirit sex scene started tastefully enough, but the segue from 69 into rusty trombone just turned me off.

DaveyJoe 10-19-17 05:20 AM

Re: "Seeding of a Ghost" Reviews/Discussion - 2017 Horror Challenge

Okay the black magic guy is just using pinwheels now for his dark arts.

The crazy thing is how nonplussed everybody else seems to be about this ritual. Either these black magic resurrections go down every weekend, or they're just helping their buddy get some pity sex.

Enter this blue-robed bad ass who shows everyone how to deal with a hangnail like nobody's business.

DaveyJoe 10-19-17 05:28 AM

Re: "Seeding of a Ghost" Reviews/Discussion - 2017 Horror Challenge

Black magic guy must be desperate because he just summoned Bawitdaba otherwise known as the Kid Rock demon. May god help us all.

"How dare you be insolent!"
is something I say to my cat when he jumps on the kitchen counter, not when I repel three fireballs back towards a scion of evil.

I love this doctor.
"I have your wife's results, hey bitch bring the wine!"

I thought the movie was over why's this dude plugging a power cable into his arm?

DaveyJoe 10-19-17 05:40 AM

Re: "Seeding of a Ghost" Reviews/Discussion - 2017 Horror Challenge

Red, glowing stomach. A case of the sweats, trouble breathing as the skin stretches tight across the abdomen. Demon baby, or the first time I tried bibimbap?

HOLY SHIT

I mean, that was a cool movie, but who hasn't been to a mahjongg party that ended in a similar fashion?

The Shaw Bros are responsible for some of the most exhilarating and groundbreaking martial arts fight scenes in film making history. Here's their attempt at a love scene:
