These "October Horror Movie Challenge" threads are for the discussion of the films in the 31 FILM SUBSET list.

The plan is for everyone to watch this film on the October day in the thread title, and to start discussing it the morning of the following day.
You may start discussion early if you want, but the preferred plan is for this to be as much of a group exercise as possible, with all of us viewing it "together" and discussing after.

Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day.
Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.

Spoiler tags aren't always used in here, so if you have yet to see the film BEWARE OF POSSIBLE SPOILERS.

For some reason, I'm looking forward to a triple feature of this tomorrow. Elvira version on Prime, then the commentary on the BD, then the MST3K disc. I imagine my enthusiasm will diminish as the viewings progress, but at least I'm saving the best for last.

This, and exploring the new Manos BD will likely fill my day.

I hereby challenge all to a duel banging together garden utensils to prove dominance.

This was the last anyone ever heard of Trevor.

This is one of those movies where it feels like an alien (or a hobgoblin) wrote it.

This disk has everything but the kitchen sink, it must be great!

• Scanned, restored & preserved in 2k from 35mm original camera negative
• Archival commentary track with director Rick Sloane
• “Hobgoblins Revisited” brand new making-of featurette
• Brand new interview with hobgoblin creature fabricator, Kenneth J. Hall
• “Hobgoblins: The Making of a Disasterpiece” featurette
• “Hobgoblins Invade Comic-Con” featurette
• Trailer
• Reverse cover artwork
• English SDH Subtitles

All this for nine bucks! Subtitles!

The Vinegar Syndrome disc does not even really have reversible cover art; it's just a giant 2 page photo of the creatures not a reversible cover variant...

I like to collect Vinegar Syndrome titles but being familiar with this movie from the MST3k episode I just couldn't bring myself to purchase it. Can anybody attest to the film being more entertaining watching the pristine restoration?

My life was perhaps saved by not being able to find my BD of the film. It took me about eight hours to get thru the film once, it's so awful. Watching the MST3K episode now, which should be easy.

Ugh, gonna be a rough day, regretting my vow to watch Manos later. Wait, was it really a vow? No, more like a possible plan....

Says the guy who has never seen The Omen. The restoration was wasted on Hobgoblins.

I have a tendency to 'collect' them as well. I think I bought this thing for half price during one of their sales, but it's been much cheaper, due to the quality. There's an inverse relationship of course. I won't get to this one before late tonight, but I am strangely looking forward to it.

I've never seen Peter Jackson's Meet the Feebles but I think there's a lot of potential for a 'dark muppets' horror movies. Gremlins is probably the closest I can think of and it's pretty great. Kind of a shame Jim Henson didn't get more into mainstream theatrical movies beyond The Dark Crystal or that Hobgoblins is such a miss.

the extended yard tool MMA battle was the highlight of the film.

I loved it!! Now that being said; it must be pretty sad knowing that the peak of an actors career is wrestling around with stuffed creatures.

I'm right there with you. I love the MST3K episode, but I can't imagine trying to watch it on its own. Funny enough, if a MST3K track were included on the Blu-ray, I would probably buy it.

This movie is divine punishment for 80s excess.

That was supposed to be hand to hand combat, but they broke out the garden tools.

This was pretty bad as I watched it without the MST3k treatment. There were several instances of when the car was driving down the road, and there was an interior shot, you could see hands outside rocking the car. It feels just a little too tongue in cheek for me as everyone is in on the joke, with no one really trying to play it straight. Amy's wildest fantasy is to dance at Club Scum?

Teen Wolf Too too.

Pretty bad movie but it has its charm I suppose. Was the sergeant quietly counting when the grenade exploded in Club Scum, like the stunt person was anticipating the explosion?

I need to watch the MS3TK version.

I was expecting this to be atrocious, but it was partially enjoyable.
